Chapter 1
A/N: This is an alternate timeline featuring my OC Irina and Logan so if you've read 'The Next Generation' and you're a bit thrown off, this is a whole other story. I hope you enjoy it and please read and review. It takes place during 'The Wolverine' and may go into the plot of 'The Gifted'.
Irina marched through the woods until she reached the cabin she and Logan had purchased a year earlier. The cabin sat alone in the woods just at the top of a large hill. It was larger then Logan had wanted but the structure's wrap around porch won Irina over and therefore Logan as well. Their home had three levels but they resided on the main one where there was a kitchen, bedroom and living area. She'd been out hunting but she'd been unlucky so it looked like she'd be making spaghetti with whatever they had in the house.
She walked in through the basement door and walked up the stairs to the main level where she saw Logan sitting on the couch, sipping on a beer.
He turned when he heard her steps on the floor, a smile crossing his lips, "Did you have any luck?" he asked.
Irina made her way to the sofa, taking a seat next to him while she shook her head, "I didn't. Don't worry, though. I'll make dinner out of what we have. As long as we have beer and wine, we'll be ok," she joked because neither one of them ever ate three full meals a day.
Logan reached out and wrapped her hand in his own, "Did you really have bad luck or could you not bring yourself to kill anything?" he asked.
She couldn't hide her smile as she knew he'd catch her before she explained, "I had every intention of killing our dinner tonight but while I was out, there was a bear suffering and I had to kill it. After that, I didn't have the heart to end anymore life. I'm sorry."
Logan shook his head, no longer concerned with dinner, "What happened to the bear?"
Irina looked down, not wanting to remember what she'd witnessed, before she took a deep breath and told him, "I found it miserable on the snow with an arrow sticking out of it's side. I pulled out the arrow and found it was laced with poison but not enough to kill the bear so I shot it in the head to end it's suffering," she retold the events, "After, I was so upset, I just came back."
Logan pulled her into his arms, her head resting on his chest, "I'm so sorry you had to do that," he soothed, "Do you know who would do that?" he asked after a few moments had passed.
She broke out of his hold and met his eyes with hers, "There have been a few men hunting over the last week and they usually end their day at the bar down the hill. They are the only people I've seen so I can only imagine they are to blame."
Logan stood from the couch and walked to the door to pull on his jacket, "They are going to pay," he announced, fire in his eyes.
"Babe, you can't do that," Irina challenged as she joined him, "We said we wouldn't kill anymore and if you go there, a fight will break out and we both know that'll end in the deaths of anyone who crosses you," she reminded him of the oath they'd taken when they'd left Xavier's school.
"I know what I said but this isn't something we can just sit by and allow," he replied, anger in his voice, "If we don't do something, these idiots will continue to harm innocent animals for their own amusement."
"When you phrase it that way, it's hard to see a reason against it," she agreed, putting her coat back on, "Let's go teach them a lesson."
As they walked out the front door toward the Jeep, Logan stopped and turned to Irina warning her, "Stay behind me. You can take anyone in a fight but you can't heal like I can, understand?"
She nodded before they got in their vehicle and drove in silence down the giant hill back into the small town below.
Logan parked outside the tavern and looked at Irina, saying what he needed to with his eyes, before they got out and walked into the bar.
"Who had a run in with a grizzly tonight?" Logan asked, interrupting every conversation going on within the place.
A group of four guys sitting at the bar turned at Logan's words, the closest man answering, "Yeah, that was me. The bear attacked our camp and I was the only one of my friends, here, brave enough to take it out before we all died."
Logan feigned a congratulatory smile as he replied, "Great job! I'd like to buy a drink for this man who, as it turns out, wasn't very brave at all," he began as he pulled out the arrow Irina had brought back to their cabin. "Listen here, you idiot," Logan started, "You poisoned the grizzly with a third as much as needed, leaving the animal in misery and then you just came down here to have a drink as if nothing happened." He finished and then grabbed the man by his face before shoving the same arrow the mad had used on the bear into his neck.
The friends moved forward, prepared to fight, when Irina stepped up, "I promise you boys don't want to get in a fight with the two of us. It won't end well for you," she announced, looking back at Logan to see a frown on his face because she'd moved ahead of him.
The man closest to her let out a guttural laugh before grabbing a pool stick and lunging forward at Irina. She shook her head as she waited until he was within inches of hitting her before she grabbed the stick, pulling it from the man's hands, and then spinning it around to hit him directly in the nose. As she watched him crash to the ground, now armed with a pool stick, she looked around the room, "Anyone else?"
Logan stepped forward to stand by her side as the men shook their heads. Logan and Irina turned to leave the bar when they were stopped by a small woman with fiery red hair.
"Are you Logan?" she asked, her accent giving away the fact that she was Japanese.
