Pyrrha was burning up, her entire being was consumed by a fiery pain that left the young woman without a sense of the world around her. She tried to move, but her body wasn't responding. She tried to scream, but no sound escaped her lips.
Was this what death was like? If so, Pyrrha wasn't sure how much more she could take.
The second she thought this however, the burning pain disappeared. Replaced by a rushing icy gale that threw her body left and right with ease.
She opened her eyes, but the wind forced her to immediately snap them shut again. In that tiny glimpse she had seen... Nothingness. There was no ground beneath her, just a white empty space, devoid of life.
Suddenly, the burning sensation returned and Pyrrha once again found herself silently screaming within her own mind.
And then everything stopped.
She could see nothing; feel nothing.
Time slowed to a crawl and Pyrrha floated in endless emptiness as she waited for some other torture.
This was hell, Pyrrha had long since decided. But what she had done to deserve this, she did not know.
Perhaps this was her punishment for being to weak; for hesitating when she was offered the fall maiden powers, for killing Penny, for pushing Jaune away, for not stopping Cinder, for...
Now that she thought about it, perhaps she did deserve this.
She felt a single tear run down her cheek and-
She had felt something.
Suddenly a wave of feelings surged through her numb body.
She felt the cool ground beneath her tired limbs; she felt the warmth of the air rushing in and out of her lungs as she gasped for breath, she felt mud squishing between her fingertips and she could faintly small mildew and grass.
'Only you made the jump?'
Pyrrha snapped her eyes open and tried to sit up, however pain wracked her body and she was forced to lay still once more.
'How disappointing, but you'll have to do'
Where was that voice coming from? If she could just see... But moving her body even slightly caused her massive pain.
'What's your name little one? Oh, I suppose you can't answer.. Ah well, you can still listen.'
Pyrrha stared at the treetops above her, unable to move her head to see the figure whose shadow loomed over her vulnerable body. She had never felt so helpless in her life.
'Firstly: You died. You are never going to see your old friends again.' The voice paused to let that sink in. 'Luckily, you met my qualifications and I nabbed you before those damm Legionnaires could come and pick you up. I did try and get some others,
but the pain of jumping dimensions proved to much for their fragile minds, so I left them in zero space.'
Pyrrha could barely follow anything this person was saying... Zero space? Was that the endless white nothingness that she had glimpsed before?
At that moment she didn't really care. In fact, she didn't really care about anything. What was the point? Everything had gone to hell. Literally.
The person above her was still talking.. Why couldn't they just leave her alone?
'-Anyway I'll have to change the timeline a bit to get the right variable..' Pyrrha heard a low clicking sound '...And there! All done. I suppose I'll have to leave now. Good luck my little test subject!'
A strong gust of wind blew across Pyrrha's face and she sensed that the person, whoever they were, had left.
She once again tried to sit up, slowly pushing herself onto the knees as her body throbbed dully. She seemed to spend a lot of time on her knees lately.
Quickly she stood up, if only to get out of that hated position. Only to find herself stumbling against a tree for support as her head spun uncontrollably.
By the Maidens, what was going on? Only hours ago she had been in peak physical condition.. Had 'the jump' really taken this much out of her? All she really wanted in that moment was to run home and snuggle next to her parents, crying her heart out, the
way she used to when she was little.
But that was impossible, because she was dead and alone and no one was coming to save her, because they didn't think there was anything left to be saved.
So she closed her eyes, gathered her strength and tried to remember her Huntress training. Surely something she had learned in her seven years at various academies could help her now? Her mind was completely blank, maybe it was from stress and maybe it
wasn't. It didn't matter, Pyrrha had no idea what to do next.
She sighed and sat down, resting her throbbing back against a tree. She was sitting at the edge of a small forest clearing full of red and orange flowers that looked rather beautiful in the sunlight.
The redhead gently twirled a stem in her fingertips and hummed a softly herself. Though she had never been here before, this place felt strangely familiar.. as if she was looking through someone else's memories.
After a time she felt the day's events catch up to her and fatigue began to take hold on the former Huntress in training, she found her eyelids growing heavy and she lay down among the flowers, falling asleep.
Mikasa stumbled through the forest, tripping over tree roots and ripping her clothes on stray branches.
She was scared, really scared. She could hear the bad men running and shouting behind her.
Her dress was in tatters and her arms and legs were black with bruises, but she ran on, the terror of being caught giving the young girl strength.
She ran for what seemed like hours, but the men were never far behind. If she could just get out of this forest she could make it to the city and then... she didn't know. She wasn't stupid, she knew she couldn't go home. Maybe the military police could
help her? But everyone always said they were useless-
Her train of thought was cut off when she tripped and caught her shoe on a root. She tried to pull it out but it wouldn't budge and she could hear the men coming closer, in desperation she yanked her foot out and kept running.
Eventually she came across a clearing full of red and orange flowers, at the edge lay a young woman. To Mikasa she looked like a goddess with her golden armour and fiery red hair that flowed into the similarly coloured flowers around her. Even in her
current situation, Mikasa was reluctant to wake the young woman. But a loud yell from her pursuers snapped her out of her stupor.
She ran over and began shaking the redhead frantically.
'Help me! Please wake up!' She shouted into the woman's ear 'Please... please.. help'
'Who.. are you?' The armoured woman said, she had sat up and was starring at her with a dissent look in her eyes.
'It doesn't matter, they're coming..' she forced out before passing out from complete exhaustion into her lap.
Pyrrha stared at the little girl who had just passed out in her arms. She looked to be in quite a state, her dress was torn and covered in dirt; and she was missing a shoe. And as if that wasn't enough, what Pyrrha could see of her body was dotted in
cuts and bruises. Pyrrha gently rubbing her dark hair.
'It's alright' she whispered 'I'll protect you.'
When the kidnappers eventually caught up, Pyrrha nor the girl were anywhere to be found.
A.N. Welp, that was the first rewritten chapter of Pyrrha, After Death! :)
I'm personally pretty happy with how it turned out, and I hope you are to.
Who is this mysterious person who can alter the world at a whim?
What are these 'Legionnaires' they speak of?
Keep reading and you'll find out... Eventually... Lol
