A/N- So lately I've had this complete obsession with Gin and Rangiku. Their relationship is so beautiful yet dysfunctional and screwed up. Anyway the run on sentences are on purpose, considering its supossed to be Rangiku's thoughts. It's set around chapter 400ish.

The Inevitable End

You thought his name was weird. Really weird. Like, brow-furrowing and lip pursing weird. Still think it's weird. Still play with it on your tongue when you whisper it under lonely sheets and cry tears that have been cried far too many times before. Honestly, why haven't you learned by now?

He gave you life the day you met him and would snatch it away every time he left; each footstep in the direction not yours was simply the noose growing tighter and tighter. How long can one person go without breathing? Is that what he was trying to discern when he'd leave you for what seemed like forever in the shack you desperately tried to make a happy home?

He thought you were beautiful. Never really said it but didn't have to. He spoke a language only you understood and conversations were never dull. Called you princess in your early days and made sure you lived like one before he finally left to a place you couldn't follow. Could unspoken promises be broken? How long did one last anyway? One year? One day? One lifetime?

Yours is almost over anyway, so you're pretty sure none of it matters now. You're half dead and not moving while the world is still turning and the reapers are still reaping and the devils are still...deviling?

Shit you're really losing it now.

The snake and strawberry fight in a heaven above you and you pity which ever one will inevitably come crashing down to hell.

The sky is filled with a flash of silver and crimson and you would laugh if you could because you're pretty sure your eyes are deceiving you in your final hour. You think it's rather rude of them; you'd like your sight in your last few moments of breathing and suffering.

The snake falls to your side, except this time there's no forbidden fruit in its clutches to save your life. You think that if you weren't dying you'd be in hysterics now because there's simply no effing way he lost that isn't even possible so it must mean curtain call for you, shows over; actor off the stage please and bring in the new girl!

The Great Strawberry of Justice is still standing and glances over with a look in his eyes you know all too well. Go tell Kuchiki you love her kid; life's too short to be hanging by maybe and almost.

"Ran?" The nickname makes you think of simpler times and you turn and smile because you're almost positive the world's not waiting for him either. Shinsou's broken at his side and he's still smiling like the creep he is and its fine; you never wanted him any other way.

He tastes like dried persimmons, and while you know there's still a sliver of chance you may survive so if anyone sees you right now you're fucking screwed, but you don't care in fact the rest of the Gotei 13 can go to hell for all you care. It's three in the morning and you're dying and the world as you know it is ending and he's finally here next to you and after all these years you still think his name is weird as hell.

You couldn't picture it ending any other way.
