This fanfic was very loosely inspired by one episode of Sonic Boom where the rest of the main cast discovers Amy's writing and starts reading it out loud without her permission. The other thing that inspired this fanfic was a YouTuber a friend showed me called Dawn Somewhere who's done My Little Pony animations based on cracky fanfics and the results were hilarious.

So I decided to so something with the narration style of those animations combined with characters reading aloud a story or acting it out with one another – basically sort of role playing D&D style or like an acting exercise where a class makes up a story one sentence at a time.

Funny enough there are sort of two pairings in this fic but I have no idea which one would be the 'main' pairing. But I'll let you find that out on your own...

And so with that in mind, I hope you enjoy:

91 Shades of Black and Blue

Amy Rose sat on the couch writing screenplays in her journal. She was on fire! Page after page, word and word! The romance! The drama! She squeed as the ink graced the pages with her work – literature that made her happy and realize the true joys of writing!

And then she heard a knock at the door which made her slam the leather journal shut on instinct.

She walked to the door while hugging her book in her arms, seeing Sonic from the peep hole and opening up. "Um... Hi?"

"Oh uh, hey Ames." the blue hedgehog asks, trying to look and sound cool while there's a nervous undertone in his voice.

"Hey." she hugs her book in her arms. "So... What's up?"

From behind him he takes out a measuring cup. "This is going to sound stereotypical but I need to ask for the proverbial cup of sugar."

She giggled at that. "Oh really? And what do you actually need to borrow?"

"See, I was getting ready to make chili at my place when I realized I didn't have any shredded cheese and the grocery store is closed. So I was wondering if you had any and if I could have some. I'll pay you back another time." he explains as he leans against the door frame.

"Well I do have cheese but you'll have to shred it yourself. Although I was planning on making mac and cheese with roasted leeks for dinner so-."

"Actually screw chili, that sounds pretty good!" he walked right into her house and sat on the couch.

Huffing a bit she closes the door and continues hugging the book in her hand. "Well, while I was working by myself I suppose I could entertain you for a bit if you wanna stay for dinner~."

"What were you working on?"

She sat down next to her blue companion and showed him the closed turquoise leather journal. "Since A Rose Without Thorns was a success I felt the need to write another story! I don't think I could handle producing another play so soon, but the story itself is pretty multi-purpose! It could work as a normal romance novel or a serial fictional podcast – anything that can tell a romance really!"

Sonic admired that about Amy. Once she put her mind to something, she'd complete it nine times out of ten. She was always sort of the artsy type and even though he might not've understood things like the "classic era" or "modernism" in terms of art outside of "It looks nice but why are we wasting time in a museum?", he liked a good story just like anyone else.

She talked and talked so much about writing and her passion for the arts that he sort of tuned out up until she said: "I mean, I don't know if I wanna publish this one – but if I ended up doing that after a few reworkings of the story then it could work as things that aren't stage plays..." she nervously giggled a bit.

Perfect. A time to him to actually engage in a conversation without having to listen to her rant about why art makers were so expensive: "I mean telling your story in multiple mediums can't hurt. Why not try making it a comic?"

"Well, I doubt I could do that! I don't even know if there'd be an audience for a romance comic!" she hugged her book. "And more importantly: I'd need to complete the story first!"

Sonic scooted next to her, putting an arm over her. "You mind if I read it? I could give you some advice on how to write a cool male character if you need help!"

Amy blushed, holding her book closer to her. "I-I mean you don't have to! Besides-!" she combed her quills with her fingers in response to both Sonic's flattery and her own anxiety. "It's a romance so I doubt any guy will actually care about it!"

"I mean if you want help appealing to both genders I could help!"

"You really mean it?"

"Yeah, I mean it!" he stretched. "The idea of making a comic with you actually sounds cool!"

"Well, it's not going to be a comic, Sonic."

"You said it could work as anything. Why not try making it a comic?!"

"I guess you're right but I don't know if I wanna draw that much..."

"Could always hire someone else to do it." Sonic shrugged. "But whatever, mind letting me critique your story?"

Amy snorted as she giggled. "Well, it's no where near done yet-."

At this point she wanted to run back into her bedroom and hide her book in the closet where it belonged. Not only had Sonic invited himself to dinner but he seemed out of character taking such interest in her work, even suggesting she make a comic of all things! He couldn't read this story! He just couldn't!

"Amy, you're hesitating." he said bluntly. "I mean I'm asking your permission this time so you shouldn't be so nervous about it! Besides~ A Rose Without Thorns wasn't actually all that bad. Corny? Yes. Bad? No chance."

"Now you're just trying to flatter me to death to get free food, aren't you?!" Amy shouted defensively.

"Well, I mean your cooking sounds great on your own but your first work was definitely a romance geared toward a specific audience... Think of it as me trying to help you improve as a writer!"

Amy rolled her eyes. "You? A writer? Don't you remember what happened in 06 the last time you tried to tell some big, sweeping story?"

"We don't talk about 06..."

"The point is that I appreciate you offering to help but I don't think you'll be interested in this story anyway. I should also start making dinner..." she stood up. "Want anything to drink?"

"Orange soda if you have any!"

"Actually I don't know if I have orange soda. I'll go check." she ran to the kitchen and Sonic looked at that journal with anticipation, waiting for the right time to swipe the thing and hide it behind his back. Right now Amy was in earshot – he could see her bent over and looking through her fridge. "Afraid I don't have orange soda! Is lemonade fine?!"

"Yeah, sure! Lemonade sounds great!" he tried to act and look as normal as possible as she strutted back to the couch and put a glass an a pitcher of lemonade on the coffee table.

She poured some in the glass for him, polishing off the glass with a sprig of mint on top of a mountain of ice. "You really sure you want mac and cheese with leeks? I mean I could make something else."

"No, mac and cheese sounds fine! I mean, unless you have some beef or bacon – that makes mac and cheese extra good."

"I'll have to check the fridge again, but first: I'm going to go powder my nose." she left the room, leaving Sonic alone on the couch with that turquoise journal.

It was once he heard the click of the lock on the bathroom door that he put down his glass of lemonade, grabbed the journal and opened it up to the beginning past all the story planning notes about characters and timelines and straight to the good stuff: the actual story.

Sonar – the mysterious hedgehog with the fur the color of the ocean – rests under a tree looking out at the sea, inhaling the salty air and feeling at peace with himself as scenery consumes him. The waves crash against the cliffs, the wind gently rustles through the trees and runs through his quills, the warm sand grows cooler as the sun makes it's way down into the water. Everything is at peace with itself.

Sonic rolled his eyes and grumbled. "Well first off: I'm ROYAL blue, not ocean blue. But not a bad set up for a first draft."

Yet despite the tranquility surrounding him, Sonar was not completely at ease. As the bright blue sky of the afternoon faded into the pink and orange sky of the evening his heart began to pound as he thought about that mysterious stranger with the motorcycle he saw riding around town earlier that day. That enthralling stranger enraptured Sonar at first sight! The motorcycle's engine roaring as it tread the old country roads and it's rider with their quills brushed back and matted down by a black and red helmet; their frame lean but still strong looking and wrapped in a leather jacket that graced every nuanced curve of that slender figure.

He took a sip of lemonade, thinking the story was fine so far.

In the distance he could hear the roaring engine of that motorcycle again but Sonar was too afraid to look toward the sound. Should it be his imagination he was going to bang his head against the tree he was sitting under until his thoughts about the stranger in black went away and should it be real he was going to roll up into a ball and throw himself into the sea to avoid embarrassing himself.

Sonic took another sip of lemonade, an uncomfortable feeling churning in his stomach (hopefully not due to the lemons).

The engine puttered until it came to a complete stop, a kick stand planted itself in the soil and a pair of heavy boots pounded the earth into submission, walking in Sonar's direction. The stranger sat next to Sonar, taking off their helmet and revealing the matted yet glossy and gorgeous looking red and black quills. He was a handsome stranger! Very handsome! He was as handsome as the wonderful and talented Annie Rose was beautiful! Yet while Annie Rose's beauty was reminiscent of the day, the light, tranquility and seeing into the life of things the stranger exuded this mystique of maturity and confidence, a handsome gruffness and darkness to him, an EDGE one could say – the edge that comes with age but not looking a day older than his mid twenties at most.

It was at the moment Sonic put the book back where it was and put the glass of lemonade back on the coffee table, pushing the glass as far away from him as possible. He could hear Amy opening the bathroom door and while he tried to look normal it was too late... That story had no only tainted him, but it consumed him; simultaneously wanting that thing to burn in a fire but also wanting to know what happened next. He blamed Amy's way with words on a page...

"Sorry about that Sonic. I'll go check the fridge and see if I have any beef."

Even the word 'beef' sounded dirty now... "Ya know what Amy, maybe it's best if I go..." he stood up only for Amy to grab his arm as he walked toward the door.

"I thought we were going to have dinner together! It's been so long since we've done anything just the two of us!" she pouted in that cute way that girls do, turning him to mush even though he wanted to get out of there as fast as possible.

"Well it's just that I suddenly lost my appetite and I don't want you to waste so much effort on me!"

"But didn't you say you wanted to critique my story and make it a- oh no..." the pink hedgehog immediately lost all color. "YOU DIDN'T"!

"WHY DIDN'T YOU WARN ME ABOUT THE LEMONS?!" Sonic shouted.

"What lemons?!"

"YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN!"

"I-I did not write a lemon! It's a very touching story about Sonar and Mr. Edgehog finding true love! It's a romance!"

"Seriously? Why pair me with SHADOW?! You trying to make Sonadow a thing?! I thought SonAmy was supposed to be a thing but you're trying to make Sonadow a thing?!"

"I was not trying to make Sonadow a thing!"

"Then who is MR. EDGEHOG?!"

"Nobody! He's just a fictional character!"

Sonic deadpanned. "Yeah, Mr. Edgehog is about as fictional as Sonar the 'mysterious stranger with fur the color of the ocean'. This is defamation of character for me! And why pair me with Shadow of all people? It's YOU I wanna be paired with!"

"Wait, what?"

"NOTHING! Nothing at all!"

Amy huffed. "Well, you still read my writing without my consent..."

"Yeah and this time I really paid the price for admission, huh?"

"You did." she grabbed his arm and hugged it like a precious prize. "And that's why you're going to help me perfect it!"

"I agreed to no such thing!"

"What happened to the Sonic who wanted to critique my story~?"

"Well here's my critique: DON'T WRITE ME IN A LEMON!"

"Ugh! It's not a lemon! It's a yaoi..." she hugged his arm harder. "But come on~!"

"No."

"Please~?"

"No."

She dragged him back to the couch, picking him up and wrapping his arms and legs in lavender duct tape she'd gotten from a craft store three days prior.

Sonic, now wrapped up in tape in a way that totally wasn't suggestive; his wrists up to his elbows were tied behind his back. His ankles were covered in tape up to his knees, preventing him from even thinking about running away.

In a bitter tone he grumbled "And you complain about me overdoing it with the sports tape..."

She sat on the couch, petting his head and in a teasing tone she said. "Well this is the price you pay for reading my work without my permission. But why don't we make this fun and interactive?"

"If by interactive you mean 'holding Sonic hostage so he can be read Sonadow fanfic'? I've had more than my fill that one time I was kidnapped by Mark the Tapir... And believe me he has a loooooooooooot of fanfic..." Sonic turned on his side, burying his face in the couch cushions. "Like seriously, I think he had a fanfic where I was basically bred with some electric mouse and it all went downhill from there."

"My writing isn't as bad as something by Mark the Tapir!" Amy shouted in her defense. "And I'm holding you hostage as just punishment for you trying to be slick. I've would actually liked your help on it when I was ready to show it to you... But you know – you read it without my consent?"

He rolled his eyes. "J-Just tell me what I need to do and get rid of the tape!"

Amy smiled from ear to ear. "Basically we treat this like an acting exercise or an RP where we say a few lines at a time to determine where the story goes."

"Okay? Well I've never really done this before... And you're not gonna make me do or say erotic things, are you?!"

She growled through clenched teeth "I was not writing erotica... I was writing romance..."

"Whatever, just give me my punishment already so I can go home..."
