The finale of HIMYM, "Last Forever" , starts the same way, Ted saying goodbye to everyone only to return to the McLaren's pub the next day.
Flashforward to 2017, Robin and Barney are happy together, they are struggling because of Robin's work schedule but they make it work. They remind themselves that they love each other and its all that matter.
In one of these scenes Barney tells Robin, "You are the love of my life. Everything I have, and everything I am is yours, forever... And you know I will never say this to anyone in this whole world except you."
"I Know..." Robin said with tears in her eyes.
A year later, 2018, Robin finally wants to have kids. She realises that its not her love towards kids but its the person with she is having kids matter and she also want to experience every bit of life with the love of her life. So they decided to adopt a child. Later that year the gang is in the hospital waiting for Barney and Robin's child to take birth. Barney is sitting out with the gang nervously, while Robin is in the delivery room with the birth mother. The nurse came out to to tell everyone that its a girl.
Barney goes in to see her daughter for the first time. He holds her in his arms and with his eyes filled with tears and with a big smile on his face said, "I... will love you so much... everything I have... And everything I am is yours, Forever." Then he looks into Robin and whisper "I am sorry..." with a smile on his face to which she replies, "That's fine." and they both kiss.
During all these years we see Marshal's struggle to become a supreme court Judge (And his fudge supreme joke) and Lily supporting her through the bad times.
Flashforward to 2020, Ted and "the mother's" wedding is being held the same way as the original. And we also see the 2030 Ted, narrating to his kids about the "Long and difficult road" and about the time the mother got sick.
This lead to 2013, at Farhampton station where Ted is just going to talk to "the mother". But the scene is cut as Marshal calls Ted while he is telling the story in the present (2030) "Ted... Are you coming?" He asks. We see Ted sitting on a chair wearing a suit and said to his kids, "Kids, I'll continue when I am back."
"We want to come too." His daughter said. Ted smiles at hearing it and takes them with him. After a while we see the whole gang standing near a grave. Barney and Robin are standing with there daughter and Marshal and Lily are standing with their kids.
"You suited up." Barney said politely, shaking his hand to which Ted smiles.
They all stand making an arc, as Ted started to speak looking at the grave, "I will never forget you. That's what I said to you when you asked me to keep moving. That's what I said when you were sick and that's what I said at your funeral and that's what I will say each and every day to myself and to you." He narrate over as we see some scenes from her funeral.
"You know I was just telling our kids how we met." Ted continued.
"The smaller version or the longer one?" Marshal asks.
"Is there a smaller version?" Ted replies with a smile, "we are going to complete it once we are back home."
"Why don't you complete it right now?" Lily said.
"Yeah, we'd love to hear that too." Robin said.
Ted simled, looked at his children then his wife's grave and then continues his story, "So, the Farhampton station, she is standing there with the yellow umbrella..." Ted completed his story same as in the show and we see their meeting for the first time.
After the narration of the whole incidence he said, "And kids..." he took a pause and looked at his gang- Marshal, Lily, Barney, Robin and their kids- shook his head, looked at his kids and then looked at the grave that read "Tracy McConnell" and with a smile continued, "...that's how I met your mother."
