Author's Note: Wow, I never thought I'd write something like this.
She has twenty-three tiny wishes, and she hopes that they'll come true, because Aeris has never asked for anything else. They aren't anything too grand –others tell her that they're too plain, but she likes them just fine.
She wishes that the section where the sunlight filters through will never be covered by the upper plates, because the flowers of this church provide her a second home.
Although she's afraid of the sky, she wants to see the color of it terribly – the vibrant blue that reminds her of freedom and purity.
She wants to sleep at night without hearing the sounds of people coughing (or the whirring of machines).
She has twenty other tiny wishes; she thinks of them when she tends to the flowers. She's thinking of them now, but this is the first time she's felt lonely, and she's in her second home –her second home. The lively colors never overshadow the familiar silhouette of him and only makes her notice what's not there.
This is the first time she's felt so lonely and she feels irresponsible for telling her mother not to be sad that night a long, long time ago when her father died in the war against Wutai. She's lost a loved one, too, and the Planet comforts her with the knowledge of his presence, but just knowing him is never enough; she wants to see and touch and love –
She wants to cry, cry, and cry.
Although she's afraid of the sky, Aeris wants to see the color of it terribly –the vibrant blue that reminds her of freedom and purity. Those pretty, pretty gems that glow with mako.
Her fingers brush over the petals of the flowers, tracing the outline of him and his memory, because the flowers are mourning; they never try to engulf his special spot, always taking care to grow not too big. His spot is the sunniest spot; it's bright and warm – she'd never forget because the flowers mourn and remind her that she needs to cry and cry.
The Planet comforts her with the knowledge of his presence, but it's never enough. Aeris can never stop thinking that if he had given her that one wish, she wouldn't have to think about her twenty-three tiny ones. She's never asked for anything else, but there's a vibrant blue that taunts her of freedom and purity that makes her crumble.
Then Aeris cries and cries and cries.
Author's Note: You know, I've never been a fan of Aeris...but the interaction that I saw between Zack and Aeris in Crisis Core was too touching for words. Good-bye puppy love.
