A/N- James is probably one of my favorite characters on Big Time Rush (though they're all wonderful). This just shows us another side of him-one where he is less confident than usual. Oh, and no, I don't own BTR. *hangs head in shame*

Reviews are very much appreciated. Seriously, in my world they're the equivalence of hot fudge sundaes with pretty sprinkles.

Logan rolled his eyes as James combed his hair for the final time.

"Okay, now I'm ready to go," declared James.

"Ya know James, we're just going to the pool, not attending the royal wedding."

"I need to look good wherever I go. You never know where I could meet a modeling agent that appreciates my beauty as much as I do," he joked, returning his face to the direction of Tamara. (Yes, he named his mirror).

Logan rolled his eyes once more. "I guess it would be pointless to ask if you could be more self-centered?"

"You already know the answer to that," James said with a smile on his face.

"Well, I'll see you and Tamara later, I told Camille I'd be at the pool five minutes ago."

"Be there in a little," called out James as Logan left the room.

He didn't get it. James was beginning to wonder if anyone would, actually. Kendall was a leader. Even in elementary school, when any of the four boys had a problem, Kendall was the one they turned to. He made all the decisions- James didn't even think Kendall did it on purpose. It was just who he was. Kendall never hesitated to enter a situation that was seemingly impossible and yet still came up with an answer that everybody should've thought of.

Logan had the brains. For every one of Carlos' crazy theories, Logan could state a scientific reason for why this was possible. James knew that Logan would be the best doctor out there.

As for Carlos, well, he was the sweet one. He might not be the brightest crayon in the box, but he had a good heart. In James' opinion, that counted for a lot.

He envied them. Envied Kendall's confidence, Logan's intelligence, and Carlos's innocence. It was just so natural to them, whereas he had to work so hard just to maintain his image.

James needed his looks. He needed something that would separate him from his otherwise superior friends. His image was something that made him…noticeable. In Palm Woods, that was important. It wasn't enough to have either good looks or talent; you had to have both. Yes, it was superficial, but that was the way things worked here. And James told himself every day that he would make it.

Looking into his beloved mirror, he saw a single strand of hair out of place. He hesitated before deciding to leave it. Not everything had to be perfect.
