"Sciezska?" Kain's voice called timidly across the room. She ignored him, hitting the phone receiver on the wooden desk repeatedly in anger.
"Damn- stupid- thing- won't-" She broke off as his hand covered hers. Brown eyes met, each pair reflecting in the others' glasses.
"-Work, I got that, but you don't need to take it out on the phone," he said worriedly, taking her hand away from the telephone and placing the receiver gently back into it's holder.
She glared at him. "Why are you here, anyway?" She asked, looking around the records' office. It was practically empty.
"You got someone to ask me to come here," Fuery muttered, "because the phone wasn't working." She blushed- she'd forgotten about that.
"Well, yeah. Fix it, please?" Sciezska gestured to the phone, and got up out of her seat to move away and let him work.
"For a price," he grinned. She rolled her eyes.
"Not in the office, Kain, not while you're still scared of commitme-"
"-I meant, I need you to get me a book," he interrupted her quickly, "and I'm not scared of commitment. I'm committed to my job!"
Sciezska scowled, then shrugged, and held out a slip of paper. He wrote down what he was after, and she left for the library, leaving him to fix the phone. It only took the brunette three minutes to find the requested book, and two of those were spent trying to get past the stupid librarian. She noticed that it would take him a lot longer to fix the phone, so she sat down for a few minutes, and started to flip through the book.
"Why does he want this?" Sciezska thought to herself. "If he wanted.. that, he could have just asked!" She looked over the pictures and diagrams, curious now. Why hadn't he brought this up before? She would have been willing... Snapping the book shut, she tore out of the library, and ran down the road to the military base as quickly as she could, which turned out to be walking pace for most people. She was a bookworm, not an athlete!
She didn't slow down until she reached the records room. Out of breath, she leaned against the doorframe, only to find that he was reclining on the chair, asleep. She hit him on the head with the book, and he started, leaping out of the chair.
"Why didn't you tell me you were ready for this?" She puffed, exhausted.
"Because I wanted to warn you about tonight, without completely giving away the surprise!" Fuery grinned, and she shook her head, a small smile growing on her face.
"I'm looking forward to it," she said, before going to use the now-fixed telephone.
After work hours finished, Fuery and Sciezska walked together towards their new apartment, hand-in-hand. She couldn't wait until they got home. Kain unlocked the door and they stepped inside quietly, taking off their shoes and their coats, before going into the living room together.
"Lieutenant!" Sciezska cried, upon seeing the blond-haired woman sitting on the living room floor, a fluffy, black-and-white puppy in her hands.
"Black Hayate's puppies are old enough to leave home now, and I promised the Master Sergeant that he would have the first pick. He told me he'd gotten a few books, but all you really need to know is what feed to use," Hawkeye indicated a large bag of feed, "to keep her watered, and how to train her. It's not necessary to know the entire anatomy of the dog."
"Told you I was committed."
