"I don't think we'll see each other again after this….and….what will come of this world? After all we've been through….After everything we've done…. I still…don't know… "

"This place… these people… won't stop existing."

"..."

"They'll live on in your memory. They'll be in my memory too."

"... I….promise I'll never forget this world! I promise….I'll never forget you, James. So… Take care of yourself, okay?"

"You too."

"Mhm…"

"Goodbye Neko."

"Goodbye James…"

Niko stepped through the door frame. The bright sun shone on them, blinding them. The dirt was soft underneath their feet and the grass made a soft crunch as they put their full weight on their step. They looked back, hoping to see the portal that had led them back home but was dismayed to see that it had disappeared. Niko turned around and faced the direction of her mother's voice, slowly walking towards it.

Niko hesitated, not sure how long they had been away. Finally, they mustered up the courage and shouted, "Mama..!" Niko's mom walked through the wall of wheat. She was tall and wore the same outfit as Niko except longer. She had large, yellow eyes and little whiskers on her cheeks. She had long, brown hair and two ears poking out of her hat.

"Niko!" Niko's mother pounced on them, picking them up and squeezing them. "I've been looking for you all afternoon, it's almost lunch," She kissed Niko's cheek, "Where have you been?"

An inner turmoil arose within Niko, Should I tell her? Would she believe me? "I-I was just wandering through the field…"

"Alright. Let's go back inside. I made some pancakes," She carries Niko back to their house.

3 years later

Niko wakes up in her warm, fluffy bed. They yawn and get up groggily, blinking the sleep out of their eyes. They get dressed and walks downstairs. This was the third anniversary of their return home but it didn't feel like an anniversary. Every time they remembered their friends from the other world, the sadder they got. They missed them all, especially the "god" James. He had helped them through their pilgrimage and returned the sun to its' pedestal and saved the world of decay. They wished they could talk with James again. They go downstairs and sit at the counter. Mama was making breakfast.

"Mama, can I go to the fountain?" they asked, anxious to walk around the square.

Mama turns around and looks at her, "Alright but be back in 2 hours. Ok?"

"Ok!" Niko quickly got down from the stool and ran out the door. They made their way through the dirt streets and to the town square. They went to the fountain and sat on the cement rim. Water flowed from the top of the fountain and trickled down the structure. The square was bustling with various people that looked a lot like Niko. They lay on the rim, yawning. Niko drifted into a daydream about their adventure when they heard a familiar voice.

"Niko…?" Niko's ears perked up, sitting up straight and looking around. They scanned the crowd, spotting a person they had never seen in the village before. He had short, black hair and brown eyes. He didn't have big eyes or cat ears. He didn't even have whiskers. He stared at them, mouth agape and eyes wide with joy. "Niko… It's been so long since we've talked, hasn't it?" Niko looked back at the man with a confused expression. His voice sounded familiar but they couldn't quite place it. Only after a few minutes did it click. It was James.
