Perfect

Steph looked at the stack of files in her inbox and let out a big sigh. Today was not shaping up to be what she thought it would be when she got up this morning. Today was her birthday and so far, it had been a dud. Not one person had called or texted her with birthday greetings. She would know, because she checked her phone every ten minutes.

None of the guys in the office mentioned it to her, nor did any of them stop by to chat, like they did most days. Ranger had been out of the office for a couple days, having taken a quick trip to Miami to see Julie in her school's musical. Julie had discovered her inner-Beyoncé and was singing any chance she could get.

Another big sigh escaped her before she picked up a folder and got busy working on the search. She had her head down and didn't notice the looks passed between the guys that were on the control room floor with her. They all knew it was her birthday, they knew what was going to happen later that night and some of them had to purposely walk the other way when they saw her today, just so they wouldn't spill the beans. If they did give it away, Ranger would kill them on the spot.

She finally finished the last folder and picked up the stack of completed searches and headed down the hall to leave them for the guys that requested the information. Once that was done, she headed back to her desk and shut down her computer. She grabbed her bag and headed towards the elevator. When the doors opened, Lester came charging out. He grabbed her arms to keep her from falling and pulled her in for a quick hug. "Hey Beautiful. Done for the day?" "Hey Les, yep, the day is over and I'm heading home." "Steph, can you do a favor for me before you head home?" "That depends Les, what is it? I'm not going to do just anything for you", she laughed. Lester led her to his office and sat her down in the chair while he went around to his chair and sat down.

"Beautiful, Ranger left me a list of jobs to get done before he gets back tomorrow and I don't have time to do them all. Would you help me get everything done? If I don't have them all done by the time he comes back, he's going to stick me on monitor duty. He said one month for each thing not done." He looked at her with puppy dog eyes and said, "Please?" She laughed and shook her head. "Lester, you know I can't refuse you when you say please. Hand over part of the stack and I'll get started on it on my way home." Lester handed over a stack of file folders and pulled her into a hug. "Thanks Beautiful, I knew I could count on you." He grabbed the few remaining folders and headed out of his office. Steph let out a sigh and headed back to her desk. She opened the files and was confused looking at the jobs Ranger had left for him to do. Pick up dry cleaning? Pick up a shopping order at Macy's? Deliver everything by 8 pm to a specific address? What was going on? With one last sigh, she grabbed everything and headed back to the elevator.
