Hey guys! This is my first story on this site, so it might be bad.

VERY bad.

Eh. I'll try my hardest anyways.

I had this idea on my mind for a while now; I think it's quite unique.

Enjoy!

I'll try to keep profanity to a minimum and keep the violence T-rated.

Chapter 1: Humble Beginnings

"Finally!" I exclaimed as I realized I had the videogame of my dreams right in my hands! In my possession! Right in front of my face! It seemed outrageously good but I didn't want to spoil anything before I played it.

Dang, I couldn't wait.

Basically, "Courageously Defiant" is a fantasy JRPG, with a unique battle system I have never seen before. And Square Enix made it! Need I say more?

I rushed to my gaming console and popped that bad boy right in. The hype was building immensely, and my hands were shaking in excitement.

I stared at the screen.

"Whoa…" I whispered as the music came on and the title screen came up.

I quickly pressed the "New Game" button on the screen, and the screen faded to black… along with the rest of my vision.

What's happening? I thought as everything started coming back to me now. I viewed the game from a first person perspective, something new for this type of game. And the crazy thing was, I could see everything in perfect full 3D, and I could turn my head to wherever I wanted to see.

I was apparently in a forest region, colorful flowers as far as the eye can see, if the eye could see past the tree density.

I tried to move forward by holding up on the analog stick.

Or I would've moved up if I did have an analog stick.

I looked down and saw that in place of my controller there was a short iron sword. I was wearing what seemed to be tattered rags of a white long-sleeved shirt, and a ruggedly brown pair of cloth pants. My hands were covered in dirt, and I was shoeless.

Maybe this is what they meant by an 'immersive experience.' I thought to myself.

"Hey!" I heard a voice in the distance.

I turned my head to see someone in medieval styled armor holding a spear clumsily running toward me. He seemed to be a guard of some sort.

"You're too young to be out here! It's too dangerous! There are monsters everywhere! Come with me to the town to get you a place to rest safely." He said with a certain panic in his voice.

"Too young? I'm sixteen! I can handle myself, thank you very much." I said with confidence.

The guard looked at me with an expression that clearly said 'Are you crazy!?'

"Well, if you really think you can handle yourself, the town is that way, to the north." He pointed toward a clearing in the distance.

I gleefully marched my way into that direction. I have this freaking awesome sword! Nothing can defea-

The world shattered around me.

"Gah!" I suddenly found myself face to face with two snakes. The guard came up beside me.

" I really shouldn't leave you out here alone." He said with a tinge of worry.

I rolled my eyes.

A transparent blue box appeared in front of me detailing enemy names and party status, like those traditional RPGs.

On the right side of the box, my name, Khaon, appeared next to the number 200 and a long green bar. The guard had something similar as well, although his number was 532. On the other side, the names "Kobra" appeared twice.

A command menu appeared, and I had to choose my commands. But where's the fun in that?

I tried to move towards the enemies to fight them in real time, but I found that I was stuck to this very position, as well as them.

Aw well, I guess I have to play this the game's way. I experimented with the options, and I found out I could move more than once in one turn by pressing the "Resolute" option. I chose it a maximum of 3 times, and I designated "Attack" for all of them. I did the same for the guard.

A feeling of sudden freedom overcame me and I decided to attack them.

Here we go…

Large white numbers briefly appeared over the Kobras as I wailed on them.

Khaon: To Kobra1: {60} {55}/To Kobra2: {49} {100 [CRITICAL]}

Hahah! I did it! I beat my first battle! Leveling up to level 2 has never felt so great before.

"You were lucky I came to help you. You could've died out there." The guard said.

"Did you see that 100 damage critical hit I landed on that one kobra?" I remarked.

The guard just looked at me funny. "I have no idea what you're talking about. Just go to the inn. You'll be safe there."

I made my way to the town of "Prelude" and I booked a room at the inn for me to sleep in. Rental cost was 10 jp. I lay down on the rickety bed, thinking about what that guard said after that battle.

He didn't see it? But how? He was right beside me! It was so cool…

I drifted off to sleep.
