Chief Swan's police cruiser pulled up to the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in the small town of Forks, Washington.
Reverend Weber was waiting at the front door of the church he wore a sour expression and stood staring with a nervous twitch in his eye.
Charlie Swan stepped out of his cruiser with deliberate propriety while conveying calmness in his manner. He walked up to the Reverend with a concerned expression.
"Reverend, I got here as soon as I could." The Chief said in a serious voice, "What do you need?"
"Chief, I need to report some mischievous vandalism." The good Reverend replied as he pointed to the Church bulletin sign on the front lawn.
The white sign which posted the times of daily services had large blaring black letters that read: "Jesus loves sparkly vampires."
The Chief's mustache twitched as he suppressed a smile. "Well aside from the fact that vampires don't sparkle what do you want me to do about it Reverend?"
"Charlie!" the Reverend scoffed, "I want you to catch these heathens, that sign has caused at least two car accidents alone!"
Right on queue they heard the screeching of car wheels to their right at the intersection the traffic light was momentarily red. The owner of the red Jeep, which made the offending noise, was a wide-eyed Emmet Cullen. Sitting in the passenger seat next to him was the beautiful Rosalie Hale. She glared at the sign as if it should burst into flames. The Jeep sped off as the light turned green it disappeared in the distance.
"Okay Reverend, I see your point," was Charlie's chagrined reply, "I'll have my Deputies do extra night patrols."
"Thank you Chief," Reverend Weber said with relief, "I appreciate it."
"Let me get a few photos of the sign for my report," Charlie responded as he snapped a few pictures with his cell phone camera. "There you go Reverend you can change the sign anytime now."
"I hope to see you and Isabella at services this Sunday Charlie." Reverend Weber liked Chief Swan but could never seem to get the man away from work or his fishing trips.
"Well you know Reverend, Steelhead season is opening and I've got fish to catch." Charlie replied.
"Charlie when are you going to see the importance of praying in God's house?" was Reverend Weber's response.
"I figure nature's is the good Lord's most majestic church and I'm just keeping his example by fishing." Charlie winked.
"You're incorrigible.' The Reverend smirked.
"Getting back to the mischief," Charlie pointedly looked at the sign, "Have you noticed anyone suspicious hanging around?"
"No not suspicious," the Reverend replied thoughtfully, "But I have noticed the teenagers from the High School hanging around the back parking lot after school."
"Any faces you recognize?" Charlie asked.
"It varies, sometimes it's the football team and other times groups of giggling girls." Reverend Weber said, "I hate to chase the youngsters off , since that is probably the closest I'll get them to the Church."
"Call me the next time a group shows up." Charlie stated, "I'll need to question them."
"Okay, I will do that, just don't run off any off my flock Chief." Reverend Weber replied with a smile.
