Notes: Welcome everyone! Enjoy!

Just Another Day

"Korra? Korra! You better get out of that bed, you'll be late! Your dinner is already in the crock pot for tonight, your father and I won't be home from the U.N. assembly until tomorrow, behave while we're away!"

For the love of-

"Alright! Bye!" Korra yelled.

Korra wearily opened her eyes and peered at her alarm clock, 5:59am. One minute before it was set to go off. Are you fucking kidding me? The morning is…evil.

Sitting up she realized that today was the day, her midterm exam in political science had been filling her with dread since her professor handed her the syllabus in January. I am so not ready for this…

Korra decided that she'll do some last minute studying since her exam wasn't for another three hours. Looking over toward her bedroom door she spotted her backpack with a little blue light illuminating the interior. Getting out her phone she read the notification:

Mako (1)

What the hell does he want? We haven't talked in weeks…

Mako and Bolin had moved into the house next door 6 years ago and when Korra had learned they were orphans, she instantly identified with them and the three had become fast friends. The connection with the two brothers soon turned into what would be the foundation of lifelong friendships, they were her only family. Her own parents left home on business all the time, her father was worse and she despised him for it.

As they got older Bolin became involved in wrestling at school and found he was a damn natural, so he was almost always at practice. As time went on Korra and Mako grew close. Since Bolin was always absent the two of them spent more time together and it eventually blossomed into something more. Or at least Korra thought.

Ping!

Mako- I heard from Bolin about your big exam, so uh, good luck and stuff.

Korra- Um, thanks?

What a fucking jerk, he kisses me that one night, tells me he likes me too, says all that mushy stuff and then a few days later says it's a mistake, won't return my texts and calls and now says, "Good luck and stuff".

Korra was at her wits end with him. She'd had a crush on him for years, brought to the very peak of hope when she spilled the beans and they kissed, only to be crushed. Korra had never experienced pain like this before, she felt tight in the chest, her heart aching at the thought of him. It isn't fair… For the first time in years she felt utterly alone, and she didn't know how to deal with it.

6:35am

I guess I'm not studying after all, I'm going to have to wing it and hope for the best.

Korra got out of bed, showered, changed, and headed downstairs to fetch her keys.

"Naga! Where are you girl? Here Naga!"

A thundering gallop was her answer. Oh shit. Her St. Bernard came bounding into the living room and launched herself at Korra's chest knocking the wind out of her and sending her back across the coffee table, wagging her tail furiously and scoring licks across her face all the while. Oh damn that hurt!

"Okay Naga, I get it, I love you too!" she said smiling. Despite the pain in her chest, from Naga, and from heartache, the dog brightened her day. Maybe today won't be so bad. "I'm heading out to take my exam, girl. I'll be back after a while."Korra filled Naga's bowls, made sure the doors were locked and headed out to her car. The air was thick with fog and Korra couldn't even see the rows of houses on the other side of the street. Well that's not a good omen.

Ping!

This better not be him…

Bolin- Korra, good luck today! Cheer up pal I know you're still mad at him, oh and Pabu says hi!

Oh Bolin, always trying to be positive.

Attached to the message was a picture of Bolin's adorable red panda he had domesticated. How he managed to get one was beyond Korra. Hearing a door close she looked up from her phone to see him walking toward her. Fucking fantastic, there goes my positive attitude. Mako nervously approached, his hands fumbling with his signature red scarf.

"Uh, hey Korra…look I-", he started.

"Save it asshole, I can't believe you had the nerve to send me that earlier!" Korra fumed. Mako just looked on with a blank expression. "I have an exam today, a big one, and I don't need a distraction." Attempting to end the conversation she turned her back started walking to her car.

Mako just stared after her and decided to make one last attempt to reconcile. "Korra please just hear m-", Korra slammed her door shut, putting up a much needed barrier, started the car and sped off. Mako looked on, a cold expression masking the turmoil he was feeling inside.

Korra pulled into the parking lot, took a deep breath, and started walking toward the school. Trying to quiz herself mentally she began to go over key terms for the exam. Origins of Democracy, the Greeks, Roman Senate, American and French Revo- Korra's thoughts were interrupted as she slammed into someone in front of her. Books tumbling out of her arms, Korra slowly shifted her gaze skyward and found herself peering into a stunning pair emerald eyes. Whoa nelly those eyes!

"Oh my, are you alright?!" the green eyed girl asked, looking concerned. Korra glanced down to see long slender legs coming from under a red skirt, round hips, a fashionable grey jacket and jet black hair complimenting her pale skin. Wow, she's beautiful.

"Um, yeah, I-I'm fine thanks, sorry I bumped into you." Korra picked up her books and introduced herself properly feeling the heat rise to her face, "Hi, I'm Korra." Why the hell am I blushing? The other girl smiled and shook her hand, "Nice to meet you, I'm Asami. I couldn't help but noticing your political science book, do you happen to have Webb at 9:00?"

Great, she's in my class. You're staring again, Korra.

Asami looked at Korra quizzically. "Yeah, I do actually but I'm afraid I haven't seen you in there before, have you transferred from another class?" Korra asked.

"No, actually. My father and I just moved to New York City, I'm enrolling mid semester. Would you mind showing me around?" Asami asked giving Korra a sweet, questioning look. Good Lord she is too cute.

"S-sure I can do that," she answered meekly. Get a grip Korra.

The two girls starting walking toward the entrance hall, the engraving above the archway reading "Long Island University". It gave the place a somewhat intimidating atmosphere. "Welcome to LIU Asami".

"This place is huge! How do you find your way around?" Asami wondered aloud.

"Well there's a number and floor system to this place, it's pretty easy once you figure it out. Come on, I'll show you." Korra brought Asami over to the location board and pointed out that each building had a special number, and each floor was numbered as well as the rooms. Once that was out of the way Asami led the two of them straight to their shared classroom.

"Wow, you got that on the first try, you're pretty sharp." Korra complimented. Wait, why am I trying to flirt with her?

Asami blushed at that, "Thanks, but I'm afraid I'm not as great at Political Science." Oh damn, I hope she knows about the midterm.

"Did you happen to study for the midterm? It's today, and Webb is a tough son of a bitch." Korra winced at her language unsure of Asami's reaction to it. Asami flipped her hair back and gave her a confident smile and wink that put a certain weakness in Korra's knees.

"I've been prepared for about a week. I don't do well with politics, but I'm a damn good test taker." I'm sure you're good at some other things too. What the hell am I saying? Averting her eyes so she wouldn't stare, Korra motioned for Asami to grab the door and they both make their way to the back where Korra usually sits alone.

Korra whispered softly, "Usually I sit back here by myself."

Asami took in her surroundings and saw that they were two of four girls, all of which were in their row. "Why is that? You're a cute girl, I'm surprised the guys aren't all over you" Asami whispered back smirking. She called me cute! Was she flirting with me?

At that moment Professor Webb barged loudly into the classroom to announce his presence. "Good morning scholars! How are we all doing today?"

Crickets.

"I see, so you are all scared to death of this midterm I take it?" That drew some nods from the class. "Well I've been doing some thinking this morning and I've come to the conclusion that we are not taking the midterm today." A simultaneous sigh of relief came from the entire class. "We'll be writing an essay instead, and that will be your midterm grade."

Crickets are back.

"Now, before we begin I'd like you all to welcome your new fellow scholar, Asami Sato."

No. Fucking. Way.

The class chatted excitedly, they all knew instantly who she was. Korra was absolutely speechless. This girl is the daughter of the richest man on the planet! All eyes were on Asami, "Thank you for the welcome Professor" she said graciously bowing her head.

"Don't think for a second because your dad is famous that you're going to get off easy! Korra's dad is the UN ambassador and she doesn't get any brownie points either!"

Damn it.

At that, Asami gazed at Korra with wide emerald eyes. Korra blushed and looked down at her paper, embarrassed that someone mentioned her dad. Webb began to detail what he expected out of the essay and soon they were all writing feverishly trying to b.s. as much as possible about the fall of the Roman Republic and how it correlates to modern day American politics.

"I don't think that could have gone any worse…" Asami groaned as she and Korra walked outside after class. "Yeah, I can't believe he changed the format of the exam on us like that, what an ass…" Korra said looking down at Asami's backside as she walked ahead. What the hell am I doing?

"You didn't mention before that your dad was the U.N. Ambassador!" Asami suddenly said turning to meet Korra's gaze. Those eyes are so beautiful. "Korra? Is something wrong?"

"Huh? N-no, sorry just daydreaming" she said nervously. "Well my dad and I aren't exactly on good terms, no sense in mentioning him. You on the other hand didn't say your dad was The Hiroshi Sato!" she shot back.

Asami laughed, "Well I don't like to just throw my name out there. I'm not royalty or anything." Not royalty, but you've got the body of a goddess. "Why aren't you and your dad on good terms?" Oh jeez…

Korra was taken aback for a second as they reached the parking lot, "I'm...sorry Asami but I don't think I want to talk about it…" angry tears beginning to form. Her mood suddenly turned sour, her body language signaling to Asami that she struck a nerve.

The sudden pain in Korra's eyes made Asami shift nervously, "I'm sorry! I didn't mean-"

"I-I better go, my dog probably needs to be let out, I'll…uh, see you tomorrow" Korra quickly walked to her car and got in. As she drove off she noticed Asami down the row and saw the concerned look on her face. Korra felt a pang of guilt as she coasted down to where she was and tried to avoid looking at her but failed miserably. Asami spotted her and waved goodbye, giving Korra a slight smile. I'm such a fucking moron.

Ping!

*Asami Sato has requested to add you as her friend. Tap to accept.*

Korra's cheeks flushed at the thought of the raven haired girl. Why do I get so…flustered when I think about her? Korra looked back at her phone and stared at the notification. She raised her finger hesitantly and then slammed it down, letting out a long sigh. Why was I so nervous to do that?

As she sat in the silence of her room Korra's mind wandered trying to come up with some explanation for the way she was feeling and it reminded her of something. She thought back to that day with Mako a few years ago, at the pool. Korra and Bolin were waiting on Mako to get in the water and giving him grief over how he's afraid of swimming. As he neared the pool he discarded his shirt and saw Korra staring. Whoa. "What? I'm going to get in alright? Jeez." As Mako got in the pool her face turned bright red and she dove under the water quickly.

No. Asami's a girl. There's no way I'm thinking about her the same way I think about Mako. I'm not into girls and I've never even looked at girl like that before! Maybe its because she's just extremely famous and I'm just starstruck...yeah that's gotta be it. As much as she tried to put it out of her mind the rest of the night, Asami kept creeping back to the front of her thoughts. Her smile, her laugh, the sway of her hips…

Ping!

FB Message: Asami Sato- Hey Korra! Thanks for the add! See you tomorrow!

You've gotta be kidding me.

Instantly, images of Asami walking in front of her earlier, the shape of her legs, and those sparkling green eyes flooded Korra's mind. Korra you're going crazy.

She looked down to her phone again, contemplating for a moment what to say.

Korra- Sure, no problem.

No no no, damn it! Accidentally hitting the send button...now of all times! Idiot, now what the hell is she going to think from that response? Korra looked over to her clock, 10:43pm. Maybe when I wake up I'll think differently about this, I've had a weird day. Tomorrow will be normal again.

Not twenty minutes later Korra was sound asleep.
