Reflecting On
(Constangreen)
John Constantine is an actual warlock. Gary Green, is a level nine D&D warlock, one that really doesn't understand how it is that John kisses him.
It was just an enthusiastic celebratory kiss, he kept telling himself, but why him?
Gary didn't think he was all that special, he might be an above average Intelligence Agent in the Time Bureau, but he wasn't a badass take-charge field agent like Agent Ava Sharpe.
Ava didn't like paperwork, and was more of a kick first ask questions later sort. Gary often found himself in awe of how she is so brave and competent in the field.
To see her so jealous of Constantine's previous interaction with Sara Lance, so unusually vulnerable as to actually show emotions in front of someone she barely knew. It was a little jarring.
Ava collapsed into an armchair and revealed Sara had said she was her girlfriend. Immediately he'd crouched to Ava's side in a show of emotional support.
She'd pleaded with both of them, to help find the Waverider. Gary found himself telling a story about his D&D group. The parallels suddenly striking him in how the Six Swords of Sorrow were very much like the six totems.
Ava had been exasperated by the story, but John… John had looked intrigued.
"Let him finish his story."
When he got to the part about being able to track a mystical object… John's whole energy shifted into celebration.
Then John Constantine, actual warlock, kissed Gary. Full on the mouth.
Gary is rendered almost speechless, even how his mouth gapes in a ridiculously wide smile. Only to speak to correct Constantine's misconception of his name.
That had put a slight damper on the moment, until…
Ava asked, "Wait, what are you two doing?"… You two, she was addressing Gary and John with the same tone she would partners at the Time Bureau.
John had replied, "Well, it's like our Gary said—" And Gary's heart immediately leapt in joy. Our Gary.
Gary watched the strange ritual needed to locate the Death Totem, and then watched as both Agent Sharpe and John Constantine kicked ass and, with the Legends' help, saved Sara from Mollusks' influence.
Gary hung back and observed, monitoring Agent Sharpe might be his job, but him being there wasn't strictly necessary according to Time Bureau regulations. No, he was there for Ava.
After all is settled, and Sara is safe and sound, Gary finds himself asking John to join in on a session with his D&D group.
He didn't really expect him to accept, but he found himself having to at least ask.
But then, John had said yes.
And then, at the session John said something that made his heart leap into his throat… "Tonight squire, I'm all yours."
