Ice Cream
"Sherlock?"
"Mmm?"
"Can you hear that?"
"What?" I smoothed John's mussed up hair with the edge of my thumb, and he burrowed deeper under the blankets, his head resting on my chest.
"Ice Cream Van."
"Really? I haven't heard an ice cream van in ages. Come to think of it, I've not had an ice cream for years."
John propped himself up on his elbow, and began to trace patterns on my hand.
"Really?"
"Yep. I loved it when I was a kid, but I probably had it last...oh, I don't know, Venice probably."
"You mean when we went together?"
"Mmm hmm."
"Sherlock, that was two years ago! You need ice cream!"
"No I don't, John. We'll get some when we go shopping. Don't worry about it!" I said, laughing at John's adorably concerned expression.
"But, Sherlock, ice cream in summer is practically a law!"
I smiled at the look of abject horror on my husband's face.
"So..?"
"So..." John suddenly grinned "I hereby perform a citizen's arrest, and will accompany you to find ice cream!"
"But John..." I grumbled, suppressing a smile as he hopped off the sofa and began putting on his shirt.
"I love afternoon cuddles too, Sherlock, but...Ice cream!"
He looked so happy at the prospect, I couldn't refuse, so I grabbed my shirt and jacket and went to get my wallet from our bedroom.
I came back to the living room to find John already standing by the door to our flat. He looked extraordinarily handsome in the late summer sunlight. My John.
I casually slipped my hand in his. Usually I was very, very cautious of PDA, we got enough hell from our family and friends about being together, and I wasn't overly keen to let that extend into the general public. I don't know if it was simply my love for this man, or my hatred for the people who judged us, even whether it was just a desire to be close to him or the way the sunlight looked on his hair. I just knew I needed to feel him with me.
John looked at me, clearly surprised.
"OK, John?"
He grinned and squeezed my hand in his.
"Yep. Ok. Ice cream." He replied, as we walked out of the flat into the summer afternoon
