Nerves - A Law and Order UK Story.

Disclaimer – I don't own Law and Order or the UK version

Pairing - Matt/Alesha

Summary – Alesha is in court and nervous, until he turns up...

Alesha sat twiddling her fingers nervously.

She was nervous about the case, having worked for weeks on it.

She just hoped that everyone's hard work didn't go to waste.

James had asked her to take the lead on this one and now she was nearing regretting agreeing to it.

She knew she was being silly but somehow that didn't stop her nerves.

Deep breathing, counting to ten, nothing worked, she was still nervous.

The last time she'd felt this nervous was when she'd been doing her law degree examination.

She'd been through countless court cases before and had never been this nervous. What was so different about this one?

She drank some water and James finally noticed her nerves.

'Alesha, you ok?' he asked.

'Yeah, i'm fine. I'm just nervous' Alesha said.

Then the door opened and Alesha turned just in time to see DS Matt Devlin slip into the room and settle down on a seat at the back, followed by DS Ronnie Brooks.

Matt smiled at her, somehow managing to soothe her nerves and replace them with butterflies of another kind.

She was fighting the urge to look at him again as court started.

Two hours later

Alesha slowly left the court, feeling happy. They had won in court seemingly breaking a run of bad luck.

'Hey' a voice said. Alesha turned and her heart skipped a beat as she saw who it was. Matt.

'Hey yourself' Alesha said, smiling for the first time in over two hours.

'Do you fancy a drink?' Matt said, smiling his charming smile.

'Turning on the charm Mattie boy?' Ronnie interrupted, walking up to them.

Matt blushed and Alesha failed to hide a laugh at the sight.

'Come on you two, James is buying' Ronnie said.

'All right we won't hold you up any longer' Alesha said, wandering off. Matt and Ronnie followed and soon they were in the pub.

Matt fought the urge to brush a way a stray curl from her face as he sat next to her.

He felt her tug on his sleeve and when she slipped off outside, he followed a few minutes later, much to Ronnie and James' amusement.

It was snowing heavily and the pavement was icy as he walked up and stood next to her, surprised to feel her grab his hand gently.

'Matt, I've wanted to do this for a while now' Alesha said, shifting closer to him. She then reached up and kissed him.

He was shocked at first, but soon kissed her back, slipping his arms around her.

They pulled apart smiling. 'You have no idea how long I've wanted to kiss you.' Matt said, breathless.

'I think I can guess' Alesha said, putting her arm around his waist.

He went to kiss her but Alesha lost her footing, sending them both crashing to the ground in a heap.

They could hear James and Ronnie laughing as they attempted to get up from the pavement.

There was even more laughter as they got up, sliding about precariously.

'Looks like I lost the bet then doesn't it' James said, laughing

'You and half of CID Mate' Ronnie said

'We heard that!' Matt yelled from the doorway.

'Unbelievable!' Alesha exclaimed.

'Well you were taking so long about it we thought we'd have some fun at your expense' Ronnie said smirking.

That smirk disappeared as Matt chucked a beer mat at his head.

'Oy! Cheeky bugger!' Ronnie said, rubbing his head.

The End.
