If you knew Nara Shikamaru well, you would say that to him, everything was troublesome. But if you knew Nara Shikamaru really well, you would say that things were never troublesome… as long as he was with Temari.

With his friends, having fun was troublesome, eating out was troublesome, even going on missions was troublesome. He had been dating Temari for three years, but he still doted on her and she was never, ever troublesome.

He whined that she was, of course, but everyone knew he didn't mean it. If Temari needed even the slightest thing – for example, a hair ribbon because she had lost one of hers – he would rush out immediately to find it, grumbling all the way, but secretly happy that he could be of any help at all.

And Shikamaru certainly wouldn't find it troublesome to procure the most simply beautiful ring in all of Konoha, just for her. "What a drag," he would say. "Why do women even need rings? Temari shouldn't. She knows I love her, so what does it matter?" But Chouji and Ino noticed the gleam in his eye when he finally walked out of the shop with the small, black box.

And when it came down to it, he was smiling when he proposed. Finally, an entire statement coming out of Nara Shikamaru's mouth without the word "troublesome".
