Chapter 1: Prologue
It was Halloween night, but I still felt sick inside. My costume, the one I had spent minimal amount of time on, felt fitting.
It was all black, and I had been aiming for the grim reaper. But it also matched my mood.
One of my best friends hated me, my sister was still sobbing in her room, my dad was upset, and my mom was flustered and trying to cheer us up.
It was a mess.
When I finally escaped my house, I wandered unwillingly into the night, hoping to take my mind off the look on her face when I said what I did.
But it didn't matter. Because I probably would never have the chance to speak to her again. And I deserved it.
I wandered past the houses, not gathering candy. I was avoiding my other friends. But it didn't matter.
I stopped at her house.
I hurried to the door, hoping I could talk to her, but I stopped when I saw all the lights off.
I wandered around their yard, not caring that I was trespassing.
I heard movement nearby.
I ignored it, but when it persisted I went to investigate.
When I got there, it was too late.
I found blood. And her favorite necklace. And a note. That I was to scared to read.
Sophie Foster was gone, and I would never see her again.
