An insight into the Pond's view of the daughter they lost.

"I had a dollhouse, once." Amy's words floated through the near empty house, breaking the comfortable silence of a Sunday afternoon.

"What?"

"When I was little – I had a dollhouse. Remember?"

"Oh, yeah. It was yellow, right?"

"Mmhmm." The room was silent again, as Rory returned to his book, and Amy to her magazine.

"Mels used to love it."

"Did she?"

"Yeah. One time, when she spent the night, I woke up and she was playing with it, all by herself. I didn't let her know I was awake – I just watched her, for a bit. She was making up stories about the little people." Rory wasn't quite sure how to respond.

"I wonder where it got to. I… I think I'd like to have it back, wherever it is."

"Maybe your mum has it somewhere. She didn't do much with your bedroom after you moved out, did she?"

"I don't think so. Honestly, I haven't really checked. We've been busy." Her mouth quirked up a bit, but she kept staring down at the floor, as if contemplating what she should do.

"Rory?"

"Yes, love?"

"Do you think Melody ever had a dollhouse?"

"I – I don't know."

"Me either," Rory knew now what would happen next. "I don't think she did. That's sad, Rory."

"Yes, it is." She looked up at him, her eyes filled with longing, the innocence of the eyes that watched her best friend play with dolls in the night gone, replaced by the haunting truth.

Rory reached out his hand, and Amy took it, moving from her position curled up in an armchair, to sit with him on the sofa, snuggling into his side, silent tears trailing down her cheeks.

"I want to fix it, so badly. I want to go back and make sure she never leaves my sight, even for a second. It's not fair, Rory." Her voice broke with a sob.

"I know… but she knows we did everything we could. She knows we love her, and that we always will, no matter what." Amy sniffed, and Rory tightened his hold on his beautiful wife, making a silent promise that he would never let something like that happen ever again.

"I love you, Rory."

"I love you too, Amy."

Okay, that's it! Sorry it's so short, but I couldn't get the idea out of my head. Short and sweet though, right?

Please take the time to review – it's appreciated!
