Disclaimer: I definitely do not own Supernatural, or any of their wonderful characters.
Author's Note: I know this isn't what happens in the series. My idea here was that somehow Sam and Dean and Cass managed to get Cass's grace back. And since he didn't technically experience the fall with his wings(he was just a human), wings aren't damaged, Cass can fly.
Anyway, this is just another short story to perhaps make up for my unfortunate habit of procrastination on long ones.
Please review, and more importantly, enjoy!
They didn't understand.
Sure, they were happy for him, but they couldn't understand.
When he fell, he didn't just lose his power, his wings. He lost a part of himself.
The part that made him unafraid. The part that could heal a dying man with a single touch. The part could feel and sense everything.
He flexed his fingers experimentally, feeling the power surge through each muscle. More than that, his eyes stared about and he felt the full spectrum of reflected light and detail.
He could feel every fiber in the clothes on his back.
His hunger, his thirst, his weariness disappeared. Gone. Nonexistent.
He could hear the sunlight. It crackled as it hit his face and sloshed against his clothes.
For all the centuries he'd lived, for all the naivety he'd lost, for all the wars he'd seen; he smiled.
Happier than they'd ever seen him
The final test, the greatest joy.
He unfurled his large wings. The sun tingled and warmed the dark feathers. He stretched them out as far as they'd go; the feel of each and every feather stretching out sent waves of pure elation rolling through his body.
Within the blink of an eye, he was in the air. Wind blasted in his face at hundreds of miles an hour as he raced through the sky.
They called his name, but he was too overjoyed and excited to care.
Only after he'd circled the Earth once - maybe twice; he was almost greedy in his need to fly- did he finally land before them.
He left his wings spread out behind him and dared them to try and dampen his spirit.
When they refrained from the normal jaunting insults, his smile grew in a rare and almost smug expression.
"I'm back," he said.
