He had felt pride in erecting and holding the barrier that sheltered all of his true feelings and emotions. Revealing your true self only causes suffering, grief and at the most an untimely death; his Lord Father had been a prime example of that logic.

Naturally, he had built walls around himself for his own protection but only he knew that had been an excuse to shelter his hate towards his father for dying to protect his wayward lover and their illegitimate child, and regret for not being considered worthy of his father's expectations to wield his fang in battle.

Choosing to veil his eyes behind anger and resentment had blinded him to his own selfishness and pride, which had been the real reasons behind not achieving ultimate power.

Long ago he'd confidently surmised that it would take an immense force, a power much greater than him to cause even a tiny crack in his barrier. Little had he known that all it took was opening his mind and, most importantly, his heart to see the foolishness of his ways.

She had taught him to free himself to compassion and unconditional love.

When she had followed him without hesitation into the dark abyss of hell, he knew she loved him. Most everyone on this earth is deserving of love, even someone like him. She had made him see that.

When he had shattered in front of his mother at herdeath, he knew he had become vulnerable. However, the more vulnerable he became, the stronger he became. He sees it now.

Inuyasha needed the Tetsusaiga; he doesn't and he never did. True power had always been hidden dormant within him. It awakened like a deadly force whenever she was in trouble to protect her or like a gentle touch when she was near to reciprocate affection. Now, more than ever, he is absolutely certain to have surpassed his Lord Father in physical prowess and demonic talent.

Only Rin ever had the power to melt his heart. Her selfless love for him no matter his childish ways and her ultimate trust in him no matter how dangerous the path they travelled, had humbled him and he knows that he does not in fact miss those walls but is grateful for the windows in their stead.
