An analogy to the chaos that ensued after that last Battle could be compared to the likes of the fall of the Roman Empire. With so much disorganization in the Ministry, the Wizarding World went crazy. It took weeks to figure out how to appoint a new minister, and weeks more to decide upon Kingsley Shacklebolt. Initially, there was a lot of celebrating, but soon after, people began to realize how disorderly the state matters were in. Minerva McGonagall took charge at Hogwarts; she allowed people from the Battle to find rooms in the damaged castle, and organized them to repair Hogwarts. A monument was erected next to that of Albus Dumbledore's for people who died in that battle. A massive funeral was lead by Arthur Weasley, who was promoted within the Ministry all the way to Senior Assistant to the Minister. This appeased his mourning for his son how a piece of broccoli might appease a child wishing for a lollipop.

But it wasn't long before people began to move forward. Progress had been made. The Ministry was more efficient, and no longer fed by the fear of the public. It was the beginning of a new era.
