"I don't eat meat," a girl says proudly somewhere off to Pomona's right. In a flurry, she starts spouting off about how plants aren't alive and that they are meant for consumption, and that it is basically murder to eat meat of any sort. The student is a vegetarian, apparently.

Pomona rolls her eyes, thinking about the craziness of that concept. It is obvious that the girl is a Muggle-born student who would have no way of knowing anything about the Wizarding World, but she cannot resist the smile tugging at her lips. What will she think when she learns of Mandrakes and Bowtruckles?

The professor lets out a laugh. Plants are as alive as anything. That, perhaps, has always been her favorite thing about magic.
