Lily didn't talk about Petnia much, but it was obvious to James that she still loved her. Arranging a family dinner between the feuding siblings to announce their engagement seemed like a great idea in theory. Unfortunately, theory was nothing like reality. In theory, Petunia and Lily cried with joy and hugged each other and they all lived happily ever after.

In reality, it didn't take too long to discover that Petunia had no intention of kissing and making up and she hated James by association. When he'd said "Hi, I'm James Potter,' he reaction suggested she'd actually heard 'Hi, I'm the head of the mob and I'm going to rape you and kill you and eat your liver.'

Dinner was especially uncomfortable. Lily had warned him not to use magic at the table because it would upset Petunia, so James had said 'please' and 'thank you' and 'could you pass the potatoes?' instead of charming them across the table like he would've at home.

Only then Petunia asked what he enjoyed doing. And he replied truthfully, playing Quidditch. When the woman had looked blankly at him, he'd forgotten himself and charmed some brussel sprouts to fly a demo. Petunia had run screaming from the room and locked herself in a bathroom and refused to emerge until they'd left.

Still, James remained optimistic. Petunia couldn't hate her sister forever…
