The leaves fell on the ground like rain on water.
A/N: for my second day of my write a fanfic a day challenge. I've decided to stick with Naruino, leaving it open ended for interpretation as a romance or friendship fic, this one takes place pre-shippuden. Gonna be another one-shot, but I hope you enjoy!
'Thoughts'
"Speech"
Naruto Uzumaki was looking at a tree. The tree to be exact, not many people knew this but behind the hokage monument, in a small, grassy clearing, there was a single tree standing alone.
'The tree is alone, just like me..' Thought a certain hyperactive ninja
"Naruto? What are you doing out here?" Naruto, startled by the voice quickly spins around to see who it is, and it's fair to say that it's the last person he would have ever expected.
"Ino? Never mind why i'm here! Why are you here?" He asks the flower expert.
"Naruto, did no one teach you common courtesy? I asked first so you have to answer. That's the rule you know!"
'You have to be kidding me, who made that rule?' Naruto deadpanned.
"Ugh, fine, I'm here to look at the tree and think."
At this, Ino took a puzzled expression upon her face. "You come here just to look at the tree? Why? It's just one tree."
Naruto gave her a sad smile at which her expression softened immensely. "I look at the tree, because it is like me, alone, unless you count the flowers thirty yards away, but I've never given them much thought to be honest."
The purple-clad kunoichi gasped at this. 'Well that certainly makes sense..'
Naruto spoke up again. "Nevermind me though, why are you here Ino? I thought I was the only one who knew about this spot."
Ino gave Naruto a grin. "I come here to pick the flowers to use in the shop. Say, Naruto, why don't you pay the flowers thought?" Ino said with a smirk on her face.
"I don't know, I usually only focus on the tree, it gives me hope, it is alone, but yet it is strong. All I want is to be strong, Ino-chan. That's all." Naruto whispered that last sentence, however Ino heard him.
Walking over to where the flowers stay, Ino found what she was looking for and pulled it out of the ground, walked over to Naruto and the tree, and placed the blue hydrangea by aforementioned tree.
Naruto's eyes widened and he turned to the girl. "Ino-chan, what are you doing?"
Ino gave Naruto a sad closed eyes smile. "The tree looked lonely and in need of a friend. So I gave it one, the flower is a blue hydrangea, which will bloom into a blue blossom, which, represents unity and trust. You're never going to be alone again Naruto-kun." Ino says, as she envelopes the small boy into a hug.
Naruto doesn't know what to do, he stands shocked for a moment, then hugs Ino back. They break the hug and Ino finds that Naruto is crying. She wipes away his tears.
"It's getting late Naru-kun, let's go home. Ne?"
"Yeah, Ino-chan, let's go home." Naruto says smiling that infectious smile of his again.
As the two left the clearing hand in hand a breeze blew two leaves off of the tree. And both landed by the blue hydrangea. One overlapping the other.
A/N: This was my longest fic to date. It turned out better than I could have hoped. I hope you enjoyed!
