In a time not long ago
In a world not far ahead
A man sat pensively at a desk
His thoughts full of fear and dread
Alone he knew he could never be
The telescreen always near by
Though still he hoped he could escape
The intrusive, threatening eye
Carefully opening a small book
His mind began to race
Hastily he started to write
Sweat dripping down his tired face
He stopped and took a breath of relief
For once his mind was free
He hand no fear of capture now
He closed his eyes... then suddenly,
A crash came from behind
Huge and dark a figure stood
An escape, he knew, he would not find
But try he knew he should
Bolting for the door he tripped
Now it was too late
But rise again he did
To a painful, deadly fate
He knew what was to come
But for them he would not cower
He knew that if he could be strong
It was he who held the power
In a world not far ahead
A man sat pensively at a desk
His thoughts full of fear and dread
Alone he knew he could never be
The telescreen always near by
Though still he hoped he could escape
The intrusive, threatening eye
Carefully opening a small book
His mind began to race
Hastily he started to write
Sweat dripping down his tired face
He stopped and took a breath of relief
For once his mind was free
He hand no fear of capture now
He closed his eyes... then suddenly,
A crash came from behind
Huge and dark a figure stood
An escape, he knew, he would not find
