Summery: Inuyasha always sleeps in a tree. He hates it.

Pairings: No real pairings. Hints (if you really look) of Kagome/Inuyasha.
Inuyasha always sleeps in a tree. No matter how many times Kagome offers the spare sleeping bag, or even when they're staying at Kaede's, Inuyasha will always prefer to sleep in the tree next to it.
Inuyasha hates sleeping in trees. It's very uncomfortable. Knots press into his back, and he can't even count the number of times he's fallen out. You can't even really sleep in a tree, just rest. It might seem like it's be kinda cool, but it's not. Inuyasha wishes he could, just once, sleep in that comfy looking sleeping bag of Kagome's, or curl up next to the fire in Kaede's hut. But Inuyasha will never do that. Not in the feudal world.
Inuyasha remembers the time he fell asleep in Kagome's time. He had never slept better in his life. Inuyasha swore there was nothing more comfortable than Kagome's bed. Inuyasha would give anything to be able to sleep like that in his world.
But he can't. Inuyasha doesn't sleep soundly so his friends can. Inuyasha stays alert so he can protect them. It used to be he stayed alert because sleep was deadly. Inuyasha remembers when there was no safe place to sleep. No resting grounds for him. Keh, he'll sleep when he's dead. He wasn't a weak human, he didn't need as much sleep as they did.
Inuyasha remembers, a long, long time ago, a time when he could sleep without fear. He remembers curling up against his mother and feeling her warm embrace. He remembers that he felt safe.
Now, Inuyasha makes Kagome feel safe when she sleeps. Inuyasha makes Shippo feel safe. He makes Miroku and Sango feel safe. He protects them, like his mother did so long ago.
Inuyasha promises them every night that he'll always keep them safe. No matter what. No one should have to sleep like he does. Especially not them.
Review! They make it easier for me to sleep at night.
