My friends recently introduced me to Firefly, and they concluded I'm a lot like Kaylee, just not her obsession with well...y'know. I was feeling a little low, over some boy drama, and this was written, in about fifteen minutes. Because I can see Kaylee doing this.
Please review. I write because I want to become better. So tell me (politely) where I fail, and I'll try to improve!
Whedon owns Kaylee, owns Serenity, owns Firefly. Not me. (Because if it was mine, I'd have found a way to bring it back...)
Kaylee opened the door to her bunk, her little private haven where no one can find her. She climbed down, absent-mindedly counting the steps. She reached the bottom and closed the door.
She flopped down on the bed, letting out a sigh. Everytime she seemed to make progress with Simon, they took two or three steps back. She sniffed. In public, there was rarely a moment when she'd break down. She was always cheerful, smiling, unless someone died; but in the privacy of this little room she could hide, she could cry.
And that was what she did. A few little tears slipped out of her eyes, leaving wet trails on her dirty face. Why did this have to be so hard? Why, when she normally had no problems with men, was he trying to run away?
That's when she got off her bed and searched for it. She hadn't gotten it out in ages, and she had buried it deep underneath her bed. Not that she was exactly ashamed of it, but, she sort of thought of it as her little secret. After a bit of digging, she found it.
Her old teddy bear.
She climbed back onto her bed, held the well-loved and patched stuffed animal over her head. She remembered when her father gave it to her long ago. It had been new, covered in fluffy fur. She had carried it everywhere until she was five, and the boys at school made fun of her.
"Oh, Nanya, what do I do?" She hadn't talked to her teddy bear since long before he had been buried underneath the bed.
She didn't expect a response, nor did she get one. Instead, she changed into pajamas, pulled the covers back, and fell asleep with Nanya snuggled to her chest.
So, review.
