Short Summary/Comments: Tezuka is back to his senses after an accident...
----
When he half opened his eyes, Tezuka could barely remember what went on before he blacked out. There were the screams, something coming towards them at full speed, Ryuzaki-sensei's granddaughter and her little friend yelling as he tried to push them away... the pain... the darkness...
"Tezuka?".
That voice was familiar. But without his glasses and with the huge headache, he couldn't fully relate it to anyone he knew.
"Tezuka... It's me, Eiji", the voice said. "I'm so glad to see you awake!".
He fully opened his eyes. Yes, he could see somewhat better. The huge red blur he saw first was Kikumaru's hair. And now that his eyesight was clearer, he could also see that the usually cheerful youth was pale and worried.
"... Kikumaru", he murmured. His lips felt dry. "... Where... are my glasses...?".
The next moment, Kikumaru was leaning very close to him, and from what he could see without his spectacles he was very pissed off. "Is that all you can say?", he hissed. "After getting one big-ass concusion that no one know how come your brains didn't end up splattered over the concrete and got you here? 'Where are my glasses!' Is That ALL! ".
"Eiji, calm down...".
Oishi's voice. It couldn't be anybody but his vice-captain. Tezuka tried to sit up, but firm hands on his shoulders pushed him back down.
"Tezuka, your glasses are broken. I have your spare ones here...".
Oishi murmured something to Kikumaru, and (surprise) he calmed down and quickly left the room. Through half-closed lids, Tezuka saw Oishi take something from the bedside table, which he carefully placed in his hands. Yes, his glasses...
He put them on, blinked to re-focus, and without sitting up he looked around. As he thought, it was an hospital room...
He looked at Oishi. "... What happened?".
"What Eiji said", and Oishi sat down. "You almost got hit by a reckless driver, and trying to get out of his way you hit your head on the pavement. You've been unconscious for the rest of the day...".
That was the cause of the terrible pounding and pain in his bandage-wrapped head. But there was something else he needed to know.
"... Is anybody else injured?".
"Luckily not. You did save Sakuno-chan and Tomoka-chan from being hit. Apart of Tomoka-chan's injured left shoulder, they're okay".
Tomoka...? Ah, Sakuno's friend. She got her left shoulder hurt. How... ironic. But he was glad they were fine, he would've never forgiven himself if they were injured. And since the pain was in his head, and not his own shoulder...
"You'll be released in some days", Oishi said. "But try to rest. You were seriously hurt, and I'd hate to see her sad...".
"Her?".
"Look at the spot next to the window".
The bespectacled man did so, and saw his mother slumped on another chair, asleep.
"She's been here for hours... Shall I wake her up?"
"No...". Tezuka's voice noticeably softened. "Let Mother sleep. If Kikumaru couldn't wake her up...".
"As you want. Eiji went to tell the doctors; they'll be here soon. And I'll tell the others in the waiting room...".
Oishi gently took Tezuka's glasses off, and after leaving them in the table, he left. Tezuka tried to sit up, but then he heard a small noise.
It was his mother, who moved in her slumber.
Try to rest...
Following Oishi's request, Tezuka sighed and closed his eyes...
At least until the doctors were there with him, he would try.
