Chapter 1

Let's see where should I start. How about when the pretty grey-headed girl stalked me. It was my junior year at Carmelo High in Braxton County, Iowa and it wasn't going to well. Every one hated me, thought I was crazy, or had pity on me because everyone else hated me and thought I was crazy. I mean come on, a guy has one freak out and suddenly he's labeled as Wacky Westerman. That's my name by the way Matthew Theodore Westerman, but my friends, well use to be friends call me Matt. I'd say I'm "Ok" looking. I mean people say my brown curly hair and tan skin makes me look Latino, but I'm not I'm one hundred percent Iowa skinny white boy. Now, enough about what I look like no one really cares about that, let's get to the good stuff.

I bet you are wondering "Oh Matt who is this mysterious grey headed girl you are talking about". Well first off, her hair isn't really grey, but it's got grey streaks running all through it. I'd know that because that was the first thing I noticed about the girl who completely changed my world. I was sitting in English class with Mrs. Shallon talking about literary terms, which I was suppose to be taking notes for the next day's test, but like always I was doing my "doodling" in my notebook. The reason I point this out is because I've been doing it since I was a little kid and it's turned into a habit of mine. I can't even help it anymore it's like I don't know what I'm doing when I draw all the connecting lines that branch off and swirl around. It looks like tree roots going everywhere and occasionally a separate little symbol will come out of it.

"Mr. Westerman" said Mrs. Shallon pulling me out of my zone out.

"Umm I'm sorry mam what were you asking" I said hoping she wont get mad at me for not paying attention.

"I asked what is Personification".

I had no clue. It sounded familiar, but there were no connections.

"I don't-" as I went to look at my teacher that's when I saw her. I only got a short glance at her because as soon as she saw me notice her she ran. All I saw was the figure of a girl and a blur of grey.

Then in the most annoying voice I hear behind me "Personification is the attribution of a personal nature or human characteristics to something nonhuman, or the representation of an abstract quality in human form" saying it like she read it straight out of the book.

"That's right Samantha. Matt you should be happy you have friends who actually pay attention in class".

"Yep, their always there for me yippie I'm so lucky". Sarcasm was my go to response nine times out of ten. "Can I go get some medicine from the office my head hurts". It wasn't a lie it really did hurt, but I also wanted to see who this girl was. Once I got into the hall it was empty except for a few kids sitting on the stairs skipping class because they didn't do their homework. I walked around keeping my eyes peeled then suddenly I saw the blur of grey again. I ran towards the end of the hall and got a better look at her. She looked to be about 17 and 70 at the same time. She had bags under her eyes and her hair wasn't streaked gray like some weird modern fashion style, but it was actually turning grey like she was aging at a faster rate. She was dressed in black pants with black boots and a red long sleeve shirt that seemed to have some sort of weird cuffs on it and a black hooded vest. The most noticeable thing was the glowing necklace she wore. That's all I saw before she ran into the supply closet. When I opened the door, she was gone. There was no trace of her she just disappeared. The bell rang and the eager teenagers ready to get out of school poured into the hall ways not even making a deal at Wacky Westerman staring into a supply closet.
