Because that scene was just too sweet!
To Know You
Watching her is like a release, if he sees she's ok then he knows eventually he will be too. She's sitting on the bench in the locker room and her gaze is like a thousand yard stare. Empty, broken, lost. It was a tough case, he knows that, hell almost the whole lab knows. But the way it seemed to drain the life from her, manipulating her until she couldn't think anymore, well that's what really worries him.
She's got her head in her hands as if she's thinking, or maybe willing her thoughts to leave her alone. He sighs, shoves his hands deep into his pockets and walks. David's feet are carrying him and he has no control and before he can even blink he's standing over top of her with worried eyes. Morgan looks up and the corner of her mouth tilts up slightly and it's beautiful.
"Can I sit with you?" it's a stupid question but he's talking and the tension slowly leaves the air as she nods her head almost shyly. Their shoulders brush and electricity shoots through him, tiny pins pricking at his skin, his stomach, his heart.
"I heard you think you're a detective now." His voice is slightly sharper than he intended, and she flinches. He exhales, rubs a hand over his face and looks at her. She looks like a child and he wants to save her, make her safe. He can't lose her.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean it like that.. You just scared me you know? I mean what would I do without my best friend?" Morgan laughs when she hears this; a joyous melodic sound that lets you know that somewhere in there is the woman you love.
"You heard about that?"
"Yeah. Saw that notepad lying out on the layout table, Russell told me what you were using it for." Shrugging he shifts slightly in his seat, heat rising inside of him, burning his cheeks. He feels her skin under his fingertips and her hands wraps around his, squeezing tightly.
"You are my best friend you know. No matter how weird or annoying you are I can count on you and it's nice to know that." Wisps of red hair fall into her face, his fingers brushing them aside and his eyes falling on her lips.
Their eyes meet for a fraction of a second, breath mingling between them before the gap is closed and lips experimentally brush against each other. It's nothing he hasn't experienced before but it's different and beautiful and he's lost in her. Foreheads resting against each other they smile and laugh like lovesick children with all the time in the world.
"My mom always used to tell me to fall in love with my best friend.. Said it was so much easier when you already know them like the back of your hand…" She whispers between kisses, a palm against his chest with fingers curling around his shirt.
"I never would have thought she was right."
