Such Beautiful Butterflies

AN: I do not own Naruto.
Also, I know this fanfiction is short, but it's been a long time since I have actually sat down and written one, so I'm easing back into my old grooves. So, I hope you enjoy.
He smiled, his face smearing into a wicked grin, blood flaking off of skin carelessly, even as he ignored the blood that was still pouring into his eyes.
He had stopped caring about anything but the kill hours before.
The very hour they had breached the village's defenses, and slew him in fact. The instant they grabbed that precious life from between his fingers, and put out the light.
His precious, beloved light.
"Neji," a voice from behind him snapped, pulling him back into the present, a kunai whipping through the air near his head, "Neji, come on!"
He smirked, and dashed forward into the field, his hands slicing, gutting, and removing the souls of all who got in his way. All so that he might meet his beloved Naruto's killer face to face, and remove him from this wretched mortal coil as well.
But, everywhere he turned, after the crimson cleared from the howling breeze after every ragged blow, he could not find him. No matter how hard his byakugan searched, he could not pinpoint Uchiha Sasuke.
"Behind you," a voice whispered, a sword sinking deep into Neji's back and tearing toward his gut as Neji turned, "fool."
Neji smiled, reaching out with the last of his strength, determined not follow the butterflies until he had his revenge. And, even as the world swept itself into an eternal twilight, he could feel the blood running down his arms, caressing and warming his own cooling shell.
'So,' Neji thought to himself, 'This is how the world ends.'
And then he smiled to himself, because, even though his sight had left him, and his hearing had long drifted from his mind, he could see a blonde in front of him, laughing and giggling, and chasing such beautiful butterflies as he had ever seen before.
I hope you enjoyed this fanfiction. As always, please leave a review! .
