''Bombarda Maxima.''
Hermione's body was flung away into the air, landing heavily on the ground a few feet away from the now destroyed orphanage. Pain was all Hermione could feel. It rolled over her battered body like hot lava. Crippling waves of agony washed over her.
She was on fire.
Every single cell was being filled with harsh corrosive acid. Hermione's eyes clenched shut, the air was filled with the smell of burning raw meat and wood. Bile rose up her ruined throat. The children were burning.
The occasional sizzle and cackle alerted her of the roaring fire nearby. It was close enough for her to feel the heat upon her skin. The stench of blood and smoke was suffocating her. Hermione let out an involuntary groan as she attempted to move her arms. One was definitely broken. Hermione staggered to her feet, her ears were ringing from the explosion. Her skin was burnt and her robes were nothing but singed rags. She stumbled on her feet, it was if everything was happening in slow motion.
The fire was blazing uncontrollably, destroying everything in its path. Hermione glanced down at her feet, a makeshift teddy bear was slowly being eaten by flames. There were bodies scattered everywhere. Hermione could see a lump swaddled in patchy blankets displayed awkwardly on the ground. The cries could be heard for miles. Hermione flinched from the horrific sight. Her body shaking as she silently sobbed, grieving for the children, grieving for everybody she has lost. So many innocent lives.
She thought that she could save the children. At one point, she believed that everyone could be saved.
The familiar crack of apparition echoed throughout the empty area.
Hermione slowly took a step back, eyes never leaving his. He did this. She needed to get out of here. There was nothing she could do. The orphanage was destroyed. The children dead. She failed.
I need to get out of here! I need to move! I need my wand my wan-
Hermione dropped to her to her knees, hands desperately searching for a thin piece of wood that would save her life.
''Looking for this'' The witch froze. ''You should be more careful love, you never know when you're going to need it. ''
''Fuck you'' A small patronising smile played on his lips.
''Tut tut. Is that any way to speak to your husband? '' Hermione gritted her teeth. ''You are nothing to me. You are not my husband, you're not even human. What you've done⦠Killing those children. You make me sick.
The smile slipped from the man's face. ''I warned you Hermione to not test me. I warned you and you didn't listen. Now, whose fault is that?"
Tears burned the back of her eyes. ''No she croaked. ''No! No! No! ''
The man cocked his head to the side, his usually dead eyes dancing with sick amusement. ''You've lost Hermione. You have lost everything that you hold dear to your heart. Does it hurt? See, I wouldn't know since I don't have a heart. Remember when you said that to me? Your last words actually before you walked out on me, on everything we had together. If only you knew that you took my heart with you when you left. ''
Hermione legs collapsed from beneath her. He was right. Everything was destroyed. Everyone she loved was dead. She was the only one.
"I must say though I am impressed. You have survived longer that I thought you would. Well, you were the smartest witch of your age. Even if you are a mudblood. '' His deep voice bounced around her skull. "Though I must say I expected more of a fig-'' The man let out a hiss. The large rock hit him square on the shoulder, missing his head by centimetres. "Hn" He groaned. He shot Hermione a smirk. "Gryffindor until the very end."
Hermione spat blood out of her mouth. "Go fuck yourself."
"Charming." Wide brown eyes glared up at him. They were filled with pure unadulterated rage and loathing.
"Well," He levelled her own wand in-between her eyes.
Demon
