"I just don't know," confessed Obi-Wan. "If Anakin is the Chosen One, then why do we have to go through this Force-forsaken war?"

Luminara Unduli watched, an understanding look in her blue-violet eyes. She knew that the latest mission had to have been hard; Obi-Wan rarely showed that kind of emotion even in front of her. Well, for that point, he rarely showed any emotion.

"What happened?" she asked, setting down a steaming cup of muja tea in front of him.

He gratefully accepted the hot drink, as she sat down across from him. "We-"she knew he meant him and Anakin "-lost over half the troops."

She winced. "Force! What happened?" The Mirialan Jedi knew that it wasn't the most sympathetic thing that she could have said, but Obi-Wan very rarely lost even a third of his troops, largely due to the risks taken by his Padawan.

"Grievous."

Luminara was surprised. "I would've thought that I would have heard about this before now if he was involved."

The General shook his head. "They're keeping it quiet." She knew that he was referring to the Council. "It was on Fidelis."

She gasped. "But they're openly loyal to the Republic! Why waste time on them when the Separatists could be trying to gain more planets?"

"I don't know. It doesn't make sense, but everything that they do has some twisted form of reasoning behind it."

She was wondering what to say, when an old memory came to her. "On my home world, there is a symbol called adversus intus."

Obi-Wan frowned slightly. In his free time- which, granted, wasn't very often- Luminara had been teaching him the Mirialan language, but he couldn't identify this word. "What does it mean?"

"Roughly translated, to turn towards within. The symbol is that of a circle, half colored white, the other black, with the halves swirled and melding at a point. Within the light side is a bit of darkness, and within the dark, a piece of light. It is an accurate representation of the Force. There must be Dark for the Jedi to have a purpose, and we must be here for the Sith to exist. And without balance, we would eventually become one another. The war is happening so balance can be restored. Anakin is here to bring the balance. All we must have is patience."

He stared into her near-violet eyes. "So there is a line between friendship and love?"

"Yes."

It was only when his arms were around her that she realized she was standing. "I think that we just crossed over it."

And in the short time that their lips were locked together, there was balance: Between love and attachment. Between emotion and peace. Between life and death. Between light and dark.

Balance.

A/n: Please review! This was my first attempt at LumiWan, and I want to know how badly I messed it up.
