A Theft

Captain Bailey, exhausted from another sleepless night, sighed as he continued to work on his computer. It appeared today was one of those days he would be trapped in his office. While in the middle of writing a report, he was disturbed by some commotion. It sounded close. Standing up from his chair, he went to investigate. As he turned the corner to Zakera's Café; Captain Bailey was greeted with the sight of Zakera the shopkeeper striking down a human kid. The kid had to be no older then fifteen, and it was obvious from his appearance that the kid was a duct rat.

"Zakera," Captain Bailey grabbed the shopkeepers arm before he could hit the kid again, "What's going on here?"

"Captain Bailey, I am glad you're here," Zakera turned away from the kid to face Captain Bailey, "I caught this piece of filth trying to steal from my Café! This can not be the first time either, several loaves of beard have gone missing the past week, I demand you arrest this vagrant!"

"I am not going to arrest a duct rat."

"Do your job Bailey!"

"I said no Zakera."

"No wonder your wife left you, you are a disgrace!"

Well that was the straw that broke the camel's back. Captain Bailey's punch hit Zakera hard on the mandibles, knocking him over the countertop.

"Hey kid..." Captain Bailey turned and offered a hand to help the kid up, "Let's go buy you some real food and clothes."
