It was strangely nerve-wracking for Gwendolyn as she sat watching Oswald. Her blue-violet eyes studied his face carefully while he turned the box over in his hands, trying to pick out any sign of distaste or disgust. Well, maybe the latter of the two was bit too much since he hadn't opened the box yet, but that was likely because she was just so…anxious.

She attempted to casually sip her tea as he finally began to tug at the scarlet ribbon keeping the lid shut, but the rim of the cup simply touched her lips. She glanced away for but a brief second, only for her eyes to snap back when the lid carelessly clattered to the ground.

The only gift that Oswald could think of having received in his life was the Belderiver, and that could be considered less of a gift and more of a given necessity. Material possessions were considered a luxury only others could afford to have; such others included Gwendolyn, who deserved the beauty of the world. He was a killing machine and nothing else.

His fingers carefully wrapped around the silver chain and slowly lifted the jeweled pendant from its silk bed in the box. The blue and red gemstones glinted just slightly in the sunlight, but they glinted beautifully as his eyes shone with a new kind of happiness. It was one he never even considered experiencing until now.

"D-do you like it?" Gwendolyn tentatively asked. Her voice had a strange feebleness to it as she spoke quietly. "I hope 'tis not too flashy…"

"No," Oswald said smiling. "Tis perfect."
