Yami coughed, opening his eyes in bewilderment. The thick smell of blood assaulted his nose. He got up, staring in shock at the pool of blood around him. Glancing around wildly, he saw that he was in a warehouse of sorts. Bloodied knives lay around him, and an misshapen body lay nearby.
Turning his head away from the gruesome sight, he noticed a familiar weight missing. Looking down, the golden artifact he always wore was missing. And so was the presence of his partner. He stood up quickly, wobbling from headrush.
The air was stale, no life moved. No sound was made. He took a few steps fowards, shoes crunching on shattered glass. Yami observed the warehouse closely. There was no sign of his missing millennium puzzle. Avoiding the tangled corpse on the ground, he went outside.
The sky was red, no clouds or stars in sight. The sun was a strange bronze color. The streets were empty. Houses were shrunken and abandoned. Yami gazed blankly ahead, despair settling in. Sadness heaved his shoulders. If only his partner was with him to at least rid him of some despair.
"Aibou." He whisperd to no one.
He didn't expect a response. There was none.
He shuffled onto a sidewalk and wandered down it. Cars were turned on their sides, and a few bodies were seen hanging out of broken windows. Yami stared at them, shaking his head. "What happened here?"
He tripped and landed on his face. Staying there, he closed his eyes, not feeling any motivation to get up. Something clattered to his right, and he jumped up, glaring in the direction the noise came from. A shadow appeared, wavering and flickering. It motioned for Yami to come near it.
Suspicious, Yami walked up to it. The shadow handed him a loosely wrapped package. Then it vanished.
Yami opened it with trembling hands. A weak golden shine flashed in his eyes for a second. Gasping, he almost dropped the precious package. It was the puzzle, all banged up. He touched it, and it crumbled into dust. Staring at his hands, Yami cried out in anguish.
"AAAAHHHHHH!"
Yami shot upright, gasping and sweating. He clutched his chest, only to bang his hand against sharp metal. Daring to glance down, he smiled in relief at the artifact hanging proudly around his neck. He then realized the nightmare he was having had caused him to accidentally take over. "Yugi?" He asked hesitantly.
Yugi appeared, gazing blearily at him. "Hmm what?"
Yami tackled him, hugging him tightly. Yugi patted him.
"What's up?" The spirit just shook his head. Sighing, Yugi stayed like that for the rest of the night.
