L-20-2: Pardoned

Detective L sat in his customary knees-to-chest position as he made the final adjustments to his newest synthetic voice program. Hours had passed since The Task Force had left after Light's death, having moved Watari's body with Light's. The next day The Headquarters would be empty, save for L himself, and Watari's wake would be held in the morning. Shortly afterward, his body would be sent to Winchester, England to be buried on the grounds of Wammy House. L would be doing other things such as mourning or preparing a cover story for what had happened that night since he didn't want to devastate Light's family with the fact their son was Kira nor did he plan on revealing The Death Note's existence to the public, but he had one more loose end to tie up before he could begin doing such things. Misa Amane. Light Yagami's girlfriend and The Second Kira. They couldn't let one of the world's most internationally well known idols become known for being a serial killer. Many family, friends, or fans would be devastated by such news. L especially know how hard it would hit her fans, being one himself. That is why L had just finished working on a program that would make him sound like the now deceased Light Yagami. He'd ask her, as Light, to relinquish ownership of her Death Note having learned that this would wipe the owner's memories, and collect it from wherever he had her send it. It was somewhat funny that even from beyond the grave Light was still manipulating Misa. But L put such thoughts out of his mind as he dialed Misa's number. "Hey, Light!", Misa said, her smile could almost be felt over the phone. "Yeah, hey, Misa.", L said, doing his best to imitate Light's speech patterns. "What is it? Finally find a way for me to see L again, and get his name?", Misa asked. It still stung knowing that someone he'd called friend wanted him dead so badly. "No, Misa, it's not about that. I actually need you to get rid of The Death Note again. L's coming down pretty hard on me, and I can't have you found out.", L replied. "Oh...", Misa said over the phone. Obviously she didn't want her SECOND eye deal to be such a wasted gesture. "Do you remember that tennis court where L and I played?", L asked her. "Yeah, but are you sure no one will be there.", Misa asked, already aware that this was the drop off spot. "Yeah, no one should be out this late at night.", L explained. "Okay.", she said. "Light.", she added. "Yeah, Misa.", L said. "Before I give up my memories again, know that I believe you'll win, and make this a better world.", she said, voice cracking due to what she was about to give up. "Thanks Misa.", L replied. Knowing that this was the last time she'd hear Light's voice, and soon would believe him murdered by Kira, L added, "I love you.", before ending the conversation. After the conversation was over, L made his way to the tennis court, and waited for Misa to leave it there. After thirty minutes, she walked out onto the darkened court, and set down a package. She was noticeably confused after relinquishing ownership, but shrugged it off. After he was sure she'd left, L retrieved the notebook. Now, L had the two most dangerous weapons on the face of the Earth in his possession. He would take great pleasure in destroying them, and ending this insanity.
