This is the first fanfic I ever wrote and I'm re-uploading due to a spam issue.
Disclaimer: I don't own Bones or Gilligan's Island.
Don't Analyse, Just Enjoy
"Explain the premise of this show is again." Brennan said as she sat beside Booth on his sofa and placed a bowl of popcorn in her lap.
"It's about a group of shipwrecked castaways on a desert island." Booth told her for what seemed the hundredth time.
"And what is the title?"
"Gilligan's Island."
"So, is this Gilligan in charge?"
"No, he just messes everything up."
"Then why name the island after him?"
"Bones, the island is not named after him. It's just...never mind, let's just watch the show."
Brennan shrugged as Booth pressed the play button. Perhaps she'd understand after watching a few episodes...
Three episodes later her assumption was proven wrong and she stopped the DVD.
"How did they get all of that luggage onto such a small boat? Not only are the dimensions completely wrong, but all of that excess weight would surely have caused it to sink before they even left port."
"I don't know, Bones." Booth sighed. "Maybe the boat is bigger on the inside."
Brennan was not at all satisfied with that answer but knew she was unlikely to get a better one so she moved on to her next question.
"Why did they need so much luggage on what was supposedly a three-hour tour?"
"Maybe rich people like to bring their stuff with them."
"On what study are you basing your hypothesis? I am quite wealthy yet I prefer to travel light."
"Bones-"
"And if I am not mistaken, Maryann is not wealthy but seems to have an endless cache of clothing."
"Maybe she got them from Ginger."
"That is quite illogical. Most of Ginger's clothing appears to be evening gowns."
"I really don't know, Bones. Are you ready to watch another episode or would you like to do something else?"
"No, we will continue the marathon. Maybe it will make sense soon."
Booth hid a smile behind the handful of popcorn he stuffed in his mouth as he pressed play again. He wasn't about to tell her that it would probably never make sense, no matter how many episodes she watched.
"It wasn't long before Brennan once again paused the show.
"This professor is supposed to be a genius, correct?"
"Yes, but not as smart as you." he said, hoping to charm her into simply watching the show. No such luck.
"That is quite obvious." Brennan rolled her eyes. "What baffles me is, if he could make a radio using only coconuts, why was he unable to repair a simple hole in the boat?"
"He tried but you saw the results. The glue wasn't waterproof."
"They why not build a raft of some sort?"
"Maybe he wasn't good at building things like that."
"He constructed many other things on the island." she defended but when he glared, she relented.
They made it almost to the end of the first season before she stopped it again. Booth sighed in mild annoyance. He should have known this would happen.
"With so many visitors to the island, which in itself is highly unlikely, it seems rather unbelievable that not one of them bothered to inform someone of the existence of the castaways."
"Bones, I'm going to give you some advice." he said as kindly as he could. "Don't analyse, just enjoy."
Brennan opened her mouth to argue but thought better of it. Perhaps he was right, maybe she was over-thinking this.
But it still didn't make much sense.
The End
