A Soldiers Death

By: The Slipknot Freak

The soldiers laid down in the ditches out of the way of the enemy fire that rained down from the other side of the battle field. The enemy had closed in on their position and had them pinned down. It was an open field with no where to go, no where to run or hide except the man made trenches they had dug weeks before. As the artillery fired the soldiers covered their ears and closed their eyes, many praying to whatever Gods they put their faith in, for
protection, and begging, pleading for one more night alive. To go home, see loved ones they had left behind. Full grown men wept as the sound of the enemies marching came closer and closer to their position. They were for the time being hidden. It was night time and the darkness
was only cast away by the never ending explosions that lit up the battle field before them and behind. Yet courage remained within all of the remaining troops in the regiment, as they crawled to take up positions for one final offensive that most recognized as their last. The exchanged
looks from each soldier to the next, told the story of each one, although each was similar each had its own hint of personalism and longing, longing for this war to be over, even if it meant their deaths. They would make them honorable deaths, worthy of rememberance and glory in battle. the sound of death drew closer and closer to them with each passing second and at the final moment before hell would break lose upon the small number of opposing
forces all grew still and silent in the mind of each man, and after what seemed like ages of waiting the trumpet was blown and those in the trenches bellowed out their last battle cry rushing out of the ground with fury in their eyes running to meet the enemy head on, firing weapons and
screaming. One by one the soldiers who had long held back the enemy fell to their knees in writhing agony as the blood in their veins was spilt upon the battle field and memories of a peaceful and happy time crept away into the still inky blackness of death.
