Realized there aren't a ton of Kalel/Anthony break up fics, so I needed to fill my own void:)
(just to clarify, I don't own Smosh)
Anthony could never put his finger on when things changed.
Maybe it was the way she didn't reach straight for his hand when walking down the street.
Maybe it was how her laughter lines showed less and less, or how her shoulders tensed rather than relaxed when he entered a room.
Or it could be the inexplicable change of her voice, whenever his name had to pass her lips.
Either way, it was killing him, and the two were tiptoeing around the real problem here:
They weren't in love anymore.
Even though Anthony couldn't tell you when things changed, he could most definitely tell you when everything fell apart.
The last time they had sex, it was like she looked at anything in their bedroom besides his pleading eyes. It was fun, no doubt, but nothing about it was truly special. When he finished, instead of pleasuring his fiancee, she got up and put on her pajamas. After she finally got into bed, on the right where she always slept, he put his arm around her for the last time.
And when Anthony woke up, her side of the bed was cold.
And their room was bare.
He grabbed a shirt and stumbled into their kitchen, where he found her fully dressed. It was 7:14 am.
"Kalel, what is this, come back to bed, please babe."
"I can't Anthony."
He cocked his head to the side.
"What do you mean?"
"I mean that we've reached our expiration date."
This was the point where it all collapsed.
"You mean break up? Kalel, we're engaged."
"I already made all the necessary calls."
"You canceled our wedding? Without telling me?"
"Anthony, we both know that it's time- this just isn't how a relationship should be."
He knew she was right. He couldn't even argue.
"Fine, I guess you're right."
"This doesn't mean I don't love you, you know that right?"
He was just trying not to lose his mind with his girlfriend (now ex-girlfriend) right in front of him.
"Yea, I totally get it. Do you need anything from me?"
"No. I already got my cats, and-"
"Your cats? What are you saying Kal?"
"That Pip is down the hall."
"Oh."
She had planned this whole thing out then.
"You sure there's nothing I can do?"
"Yes Anthony, all my stuff is in boxes by the car, the cats are in travel cases."
"Ok."
This shouldn't hurt so much, seeing as things had been heading toward this point for a while now.
"Anthony, you don't look good..."
"I'm fine Kalel. It's just a bit much to process, waking up to you girlfriend leaving you."
"Again, I'm sorry it has to be this way. We just can't keep living like there's still something here."
Just. He felt like the "just" is what sealed his fate. Anthony, never just hit the mark.
"It's fine."
"If you say so."
He doesn't think so.
She starts toward the door, keys moving in time with her hips.
Kalel turns around just before touching the doorknob.
"Anthony?"
He sighs.
"Yea?"
She gives him a sympathetic look.
"I left the ring on the counter."
"Oh. Thanks."
She smiles sadly, and it doesn't reach her eyes.
"Goodbye Anthony."
"Bye"
And the door shuts behind her.
He manages to steer his feet back to the kitchen, only to notice the sparkling band he missed earlier. He doesn't bother to pick it up, and pads his way back to bed.
And that's when he sees it.
She left the necklace, the gift he gave her for their anniversary, sitting on his nightstand. It felt like the piece of jewelry was only existing to mock him.
The pendent is what stood out to him.
The two inch bullet seemed to stare straight back at him, glinting as though to challenge him.
Anthony slipped it over his head.
