"Come on dad." Betty sighed as she walked over to the bar where her father was sitting with a glass half full of whiskey.
"Go where? I no longer have a home to go too. I no longer have a wife to go home to. I no longer have children whom needs me." Hal looked up into his youngest daughter's eyes. "Go back home Elizabeth. You don't need to see your old man like this." He lifted the glass to his lips and took a long deep gulp from it.
"I'm not leaving you daddy." Betty sat on the seat next to her broken father. She reached over and placed her hand on his arm.
"You are a good girl Elizabeth." Hal whispered as he looked into his baby's eyes. "All you kids are good." He whispered as he let the glass go. He sat straight. "I'm sorry that you have to see me like this."
Betty simply shrugged.
"Time to get out of here." Hal nodded his head. "You have to drive Betty. Remember what I told you kids. Even with one drink in you … I don't want you driving." He stood up. "I admittedly have way more than one drink in me."
Betty got off the stool herself. "I'm glad that I didn't see your car here dad." She placed her arm through her father's waiting arm.
Hal gently pulled his daughter closer to his side. "I knew that I wanted to drink after work. So I took a cab all day long." He sighed. He allowed his daughter to lead the way out of the bar. He turned his daughter to face him in the night air. "I'm really glad that you came for me Betty. Otherwise I think I would have gotten passed out drunk if left to myself."
He looked at his silent daughter. "How did you know I was here?"
"The bartender called me." Betty sighed as she started to walk. "He calls me whenever mom comes and spends time here herself."
Hal sighed deeply. "Oh." He followed after his daughter. He opened the passenger side of her car and got in. Turning before putting on his seat belt. "I promise you that you won't get anymore calls about me, honey." He looked into her worried eyes. "I promise you." He husked out.
Betty nodded. "Okay." She whispered. She leaned over and gently kissed her father' s cheek. She pulled back and started the car.
