Mirai Kuriayama slowly meandered up her front walk with her bag of pre-made dinners. The store was having another sale and she was already running short on funds for the month. She paused when she heard a quiet 'mew' from below. The bespectacled beauty carefully stepped around the new comer's tail and tilted her head at the kitten. Once she reached the front porch she looked back to see if the kitten followed. To her dismay the small ball of fur pranced up the steps behind her. She ran inside and filled a small saucer with milk, leaving the groceries on the counter. She sat down on the front steps setting the dish of cream down for the kitten.
"Here kitty kitty!" she called out. The kitten lapped up the milk with furor. She pat the purring mess of orange fluff gently.
"Looks like a keeper…" Mirai smiled and placed the kitten in her arms. Cuddling it close to her chest she headed inside for the night.
~A MONTH LATER~
Mirai slipped through the gate to her yard. She hurried to the porch with the food. She heard a chorus of meows from behind her front door.
"Hold on guys," she replied. After merrily filling the bowls on the porch for the small group of cats she accumulated, she opened the door. There were at the very least ten cats that rushed out for their feeding. There were coats of grey, white, black, orange, and calico. Some were striped others spotted. Some were skinny others chubby. Mirai's favorite, the orange kitten (that grew up quite a bit), slipped over into her lap and she pat it gently on the head. It needed a slight brushing, but its coat still seemed rather clean after she gave baths last week.
When the cats are finished with their evening meal, Mirai makes her own dinner. She ends up eating cup ramen for convenience. She begins brushing the cats' coats one by one and before she knows it her favorite blush pink cardigan is covered in fur. Mirai brushes the fur off to the best of her ability when she hears a car door shutting. She peeks out the window to see a moving truck. She knew that the house next door had been on the market for a while but she didn't realize it had sold yet.
Mirai hurried outside, being careful not to let her precious pets out the door. She walked up to the tall blonde to welcome him to the neighborhood. Shyly Mirai began with a, "Hello, are you the new homeowner?" The guy turned around and looked at her.
"Why y-" the man sneezed. And then he sneezed again. "Sorry about that! Allergies… Hi, I'm Akihito Kanbara."
"Mirai Kuriyama. I live just over there." she pointed to her house. Akihito's face changed very quickly when he noticed the cat in the windowsill.
"Uh… well it's nice to meet you but I pretty much keep to myself. I have lots to unpack so I better-"Akihito sneezes again and rubs his nose. "I better go. Thanks for stopping by."
"So unpleasant," Mirai mutters as she walks back to the safety of her home.
