It seemed like a good idea. The chosen children went to a ball and Ken tagged along. Ken was new to the group and to the world. He should meet new people. Miyako was told not to embarrass him, and Daisuke was told not to be argumentive or to curse.
The seemingly good idea was horrible. Ken felt so awkward. It was bad enough that his so-called friends didn't trust him -- it was even worse because he had no other friends. He sighed loudly and walked to a dark corner.
I see I have company, he thought. A young redheaded girl, a few inches shorter than he, was leaning against the wall. She looked melancholy, staring into space with tears slowly gathering in her eyes.
"Are you all right?" he asked casually, with a tinge of concern.
"I think so." She straightened up and wiped her eyes with her handkerchief. "I'm sorry."
He smiled softly at her. "For what? You didn't do anything. Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Ichijouji Ken." He bowed.
She brightened up, and gave a little bow back. "My name is Mimizu Sabishii. It's nice to meet you, Mr. Ichijouji."
Ken coughed. He wanted to ask her to dance. Should he? She seemed so nice when she was happy. Such bright blue eyes, such long pretty green pigtails... Something about her threw him off.
"W-would you like to...?" He held out his hand, and she daintily held it. Sabishii nodded and smiled at him.
The two walked onto the ballroom floor, and joined in. The music was light but medium speed. ken and Sabishii made a good pair, dancing in ways neither new they were capable of. The crowd slowly stopped and just watched them. Both of them didn't notice anything at all.
The song ended, and everyone clapped. The lights dimmed softly. The music came back on, this time slow and romantic. Sabishii pulled close to Ken. She tilted her head up to his ear.
"Ken-chan..." she whispered. She then rested on his shoulder. He dared nto speak a word, lest he ruin this perfect moment. But why? Why did it feel just right? And so familiar, like an old memory on a summer day...
"I love you, Ken-chan."
"I..."
"But you don't have to love me as well. Just don't leave me alone for so long."
"Who are you?"
Sabishii closed her eyes. "Do I have to tell you now? You were so happy when I told you otherwise."
Ken stroked her hair gently. "I'm happy and I met you today. You can do whatever you please. I'll be happy."
"I love you." She abruptly broke away from hs arms. Almost floating, she left for the door. Ken walked after her.
"Wait, Sabishii! Don't leave me yet! You didn't even tell me who you were." His voice faltered and he looked down.
"Ken. I'm your partner." Sabishii ran off, leaving no trace of having been at the ball.
"Wormmon?"
The End.
