~With her eyes wide shut

Home

Mako wasn't quite sure when it was. Maybe it happened when he told her that he loved her in the South Pole. Maybe when she returned the sentiment. Perhaps it is when they go on their first date, and she lights the table on fire because some stupid fangirl is trying to come on to him, or maybe it is when Bolin finds them kissing later that night and he realizes that he doesn't care if he sees them. It could be when she is in tears because it is so hard, and she can't always be strong Korra, and he holds her tight. Is it when they have one of their terrible, awful fights, but she still comes back to the apartment that night? Was it when, during another of those fights, he was going to leave, he really was this time but one look into her eyes, and he just can't? He supposes it might be the night that he offers a ring to her, and she is confused, as she is used to the water tribe tradition of betrothal necklaces, or when he finally makes one of those necklaces, it is awful, it is ugly, for Mako is not the best carver, and she calls it beautiful. It probably is all those other little things: Her eyes, the searing kisses, how they never have to say I Love You because it is everything they do for the other, how when they touch, it is electric, or how she somehow makes him feel so safe.

He thinks it really is all of those, that collection that finally made him realize something.

Home doesn't have to be a place. It can also be a person.

His home at least, is Korra.
