Jabberwocky
Something wasn't right. Something in his gut was screaming at him. Alarms were going off in his head. Something was out of place, but what?
In front of him, Joker giggled madly, so giddy he was nearly jumping up and down. Batman studied him carefully. With the clown prince of crime, he had learned to unexpect the unexpected. Joker made an extravagant sweep of his arms, grin bright.
"Did you ever read Alice in Wonderland as a kid, Batsy?" he asked, twirling with his arms outstretched, like an overexcited child. Batman remained silent, eyes narrowed. "No?" Joker cackled. "'Twas brillig and the slithy toves did gyre and gimble in the wabe; all mimsy were the borogoves, and the mome raths outgrabe." the madman broke down into more laughter, dodging a batarang tossed his way.
"What are you talking about, Joker?" Batman asked harshly, advancing on him. Joker only backed away, laughter echoing around them. "And what are you up to?!"
"Wonderland, Sweetums! Wonderland." Joker made another evasive maneuver, bouncing and laughing. "Beware the Jabberwock my son! The jaws that bite, the claws that catch! Beware the jubjub bird, and shun the frumious Bandersnatch!"
The feeling that something wasn't right tore at Batman's mind again. Joker stopped and looked at him, his smile turning down just a notch. "If I had a wonderland of my own, everyone would be just like me." he did another theatrical twirl. "Everyone would smile!" Batman growled, grabbing the clown and shoving him hard into a wall.
"What's your game?!" Joker simply stared at him and grinned. Batman shook him roughly, eyes dark with anger.
"No game, just wonderland!" the mad man let out a harsh bark of laughter. "Y'know. In my wonderland, there are Jabberwocks everywhere. And I can't get rid of them." Joker hummed, letting Batman take him back to Arkham, mumbling nonsensical rhymes all the way there.
"Watch him." he commanded the orderly, dumping him handcuffs and all into a cell. The man nodded timidly, looking between the two forces of destruction in disbelief.
"Batsy." Joker called. The batman stopped, but didn't turn around. "I think, in my wonderland, you'd fit in quite well." the vigilante didn't reply, merely left, his aura dark around him.
Joker giggled and got comfortable, scratching at the walls with his nails. "After all. It's your fault I need a wonderland at all. You could be my Alice."
That sickening feeling was still there in Batman's stomach, sharp. Something wasn't adding up.
