First Sight
The bell chimes. She was running. What she was running from she was uncertain. Her hair was sticking to her face, sticky from perspiration. She was panting. Hands were on her knees; she was hunched over, breathing deeply and gasping for air,
From behind her, she hears them coming again. Them? She heard their shuffling feet in the leaves surrounding the forest floor. She pushes her blonde hair out of her eyes. She starts sprinting, trees were cutting her arms and legs as she ran. Then she bumps into a chest and looks up.
He was beautiful. His hair, pale blonde with brown lowlights. His eyes were round and squinting off into the distance behind her. His eyes were as green as the grass. His nose was shaped like a roman's nose and his lips were so full and a pale pink color. Not a single blemish. He holds her to make sure she doesn't collapse under him.
"Let's go." He says. She could've fought the people who were chasing her. Her dagger was in the holster around her waist.
"Wait, no. I don't know you. Why would I go with you?"
"We'll talk in the car, just move your feet a little quicker than that." He says, dragging her by her wrist. In the street by the opening of the forest, was a black mustang. He opens the door and shoves her into the leather seat. He gets in, puts the key in the ignition and pulls out quickly. The car was really going eighty-five miles an hour, swerving in and out of cars, but she felt like the car was going thirty-five and that was the normal speed.
"I'm Circe." She says. "Jack." He says plainly. He swerves again. Circe fastens her seatbelt.
"I could've taken those guys." She says.
"Is that why you were running away from them?" He laughs.
"No."
"Then why were you running?"
"Because, I—well, you see, I was—Okay. Alright, fine. I was scared. There were so many of them. Usually it's only one or two, three at the most but this time it was too many so I ran." Circe says.
"Well, you're okay now." He assures her. "Are you cold?"
"Kinda." She answers. With one hand he retrieves a heavy leather jacket from the backseat and puts it over her shoulders. "Thank you." She says and he nods.
He slows down, finally to a normal speed. The car was warm. She puts the jacket in the backseat.
"So, where do you live?" He asks.
""550 Maple Drive." She says. He pulls onto Maple Drive. 415…420…450…475…
"What do you do?" He asks her.
"I'm a ninja assassin. Killing, or assassinating the bad ones." Circe says.
"Ah, that's……interesting." He says.
"Yeah. It gets me by. What do you do?"
"As little as possible." He answers. "I make money when I need to."
"Oh." 525…539…545…548…550…she counts. The car stops. Jack gets out to walk her to the door. "Thanks." She says as she's unlocking the door.
"No problem." He says.
"So….." She starts. "Will I see you again?"
He lifts her chin upward so she is looking into his eyes. He kisses her lips softly.
"I'm going to need to do that again. Therefore, I will be forced to meet you again. Just, not under the same circumstances." He smiles at her.
She smiles when he walks away. He leaves in his black mustang and she goes into the house.
