So, I have been assigned an English essay by my English teacher to improve my skill in conversation writing and this popped up instead. So read and enjoy this piece of writing achieved through two cups of coffee at 2.30 a.m

Disclaimer: I do not own the characters, although I do own a High School Musical notebook and file.

Male Dialogue is in bold

Female Dialogue is in normal font

"How long have we known each other?"

"Since kindergarten, so about ten years, I suppose"

"Really? Seems like we just met yesterday."

"Maybe you have some sort of teenage amnesia, one of your beloved basketballs probably hit you too hard on the head."

"Still as sweet as ever, aren't you? Some things never change."

"I take that as a compliment. Now just keep quiet for a minute."

"…Nice night isn't it?"

"What happened to keeping quiet? Oh never mind…It better be a nice night, you asked me out and here I am, lying on the grass with you and giving mosquitoes a free meal."

"Come on, enjoy nature for once. Look at the stars, there are really quite magnificent."

"You are beginning to sound like one of those girls who stuff themselves with popcorn and watch chick flicks alone."

"And Miss Judgmental hits me on the head with another basketball. But really, it is a beautiful night."

"Maybe for once you are right about something."

"Remember how we used to lie on the grass like this when we were young? Remember what you asked me to do for you?"

"I was young then."

"Yeah, those were probably the best days of my life."

"…"

"What happened to us? How did we go from childhood best friends and almost strangers?"

"Time passed, life happened. You became popular, you made new friends, you moved on… I become unpopular, your friends became my enemies, and we became strangers."

"Do you think we should have tried harder? Hung out more often? Not get swept away by life?"

"Maybe, but what's life without a few mistakes?"

"That was always your thinking. Maybe I was the one who changed too much, maybe I was the one who drifted away…"

"Stop with all the self-blaming. We're not about to hug each other and cry over our miserable lives with milk and chocolate chip cookies."

"Maybe we've come a full circle. We might be older, but the night is still as beautiful as it was, the stars are just are bright."

"Is this just your way of saying that we are still stuck in school and single?"

"Whichever way you choose to view it is fine by me. But you are still lying on my arm."

"That? That...it's this stupid stargazing thing that you manage to talk me into. All the stars are making me dizzy."

"Whatever the reason is, I'm glad you and I are here again."

"Me too… Wait I didn't mean that! See, it's all these stars, they're clouding my judgment! Stop sniggering like that!"

"Whatever you say, can I tell you something?"

"If I said no, would you keep quiet?"

"No."

"Knew it, go ahead then."

"Anytime you want me to catch a star for you again, just ask me. I'll do it in a heartbeat."

"...Thank you."

And she didn't prevent him from holding her hand on their way home.
