Disclaimer: I don't own anything of Joss Whedon's or ME. But I do have this strange little world twisting round in my head…and sometimes certain characters visit.

A/N: Well, here's my new story…and I swear on all that is unholy that I will update "Corruptible Innocence". But while you wait, read and review?

"Once there was a time the world was dark. Then there was man and man was alone. God then gave man the plants and animals, and allowed him to name them and make them his own. And so the world was filled and life flourished from all corners of the world. But man was still alone. So from man's flesh, a gift was made. A being of such purity and innocence, all were envious. For you see, with the gift of woman, came a great price. The other creatures, beings of darkness and shadow, animals of sin and debauchery, coveted man's gift. They pressed on the edge and it is because of them, we built this sanctuary. For without men at our borders, they would overrun us. And without our rules and customs, in home we would be corrupted. Never forget they are there."

A village of eyes turned to the towering walls, where only the tops of the outlying woods were visible.

"And never forget what keeps them out." Hank Summers made a wide sweep with his arm, gesturing to the village. "Here we are free. Here," He smiled proudly at the crowd, "We are safe." He frowned suddenly, "But beyond our walls, if you were ever to leave, you would find a much different world. The only men you would find are thieves and murderers, who would as soon cut your throat as smile. Women so whorish, they would lift their skirts to any creature; man, woman, or beast. And don't delude yourselves brethren, there are beasts." He gestured towards the woods. "Just beyond these walls, they wait. The vilest of demons, wolves in sheep's clothing. They wait for the weak, the tempted, to fall into their clutches. But we are strong and we will resist. We must, for our sakes, the sake of our children, our culture, and our lifes!"

The crowd erupted into applause and Hank smiled.

But behind the podium, Buffy looked at the wall…and wondered.
