Chapter One: The beginning
"So, the workout wonder thinks he can eat with the rest of us, huh?"
The remark was more of a challenge than a question. The boy making the remark flew twenty or so feet back.
"I wouldn't insult better people than yourself, Kulio," I replied.
Staggering to his feet, the boy, Kulio, drew his knife.
I laughed. "As if you could harm me, or even touch me. Try it. I dare you, jotun."
Kulio gasped. Jotuns, the ugliest of the races by far, were murderers. Calling somebody a jotun was the ultimate insult.
"Sonin, you just signed your own death warrant."
He leaped at me, and I neatly sidestepped him. When he landed, he twirled around and threw his knife, which I caught a millimeter before impaling me in between the eyes. I threw it back to the ground nearby.
"You use it. I have no use for parley tricks."
He grabbed it and hurled it through my heart.
